afx Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 Great work JC, looks awesome, as always!! ...would love to see the Sebring Cobra also LOL Thanks Jeremy & Maxx. Fabricating and mounting the stone guard at the front has me tripped up. I'll get it figured out. If not the car did race later in the season without the guard.

VRM Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Here's the Costilow & Larson car with the lettering as it ran back in the 60's I can't find a single photo from back then showing it lettered like it is now. It looks like the top on this is similar to the Motion 427 car. I wish someone would make Dragonsnake decals. Are you listening Steve DeVaux? I am...
250 Testa Rossa Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I am... Would Lynn Park's El Cid be one of those cars?
afx Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) JC, How's that stoneguard coming? Gene, I fab'ed this one awhile ago. I don't love it but I think it might work. I still have to come up with a realistic way to mount it. Honestly I haven't worked on it some time. I am focused more on my 427 build at the moment. Edited November 20, 2015 by afx
Speedfreak Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Is your 427 build in 'On the work bench?

Speedfreak Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) Okay, thanks JC, will check it out. BTW, that stone guard doesn't look bad, you should mount it, lol. Edited November 20, 2015 by Speedfreak
afx Posted December 25, 2015 Author Posted December 25, 2015 My goal starting this project was to build El Cid. I created the hardtop based on photos of the restored car and in line with what the factory car used. While I am happy with that current hardtop it is not correct for the style El Cid originally ran. So I started over with the hardtop from the Monogram/Revell “Baldwin Motion” 427. Again I sectioned it down the middle and reshaped it to fit the AMT body.
Len Woodruff Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Yes, Yes, Yes. I need this for the Costilow & Larson "pink" Dragon Snake. Please cast these or include it as part of the Dragon Snake from HRM.

Terminator-Fox Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 I got to see a real deal 289 Dragonsnake at the Muscle Car Nationals this past November. Amazing car, nice build!
afx Posted December 26, 2015 Author Posted December 26, 2015 (edited) I got to see a real deal 289 Dragonsnake at the Muscle Car Nationals this past November. Amazing car, nice build! Thanks Steve, the car you saw is indeed a genuine Dragonsnake, chassis CSX2472. What's unique about this car is that it was never drag raced! The original owner used it as street car, and a subsequent owner road raced it. That extra tall roll bar is unique to this car as well. Edited December 26, 2015 by afx
Speedfreak Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 JC, how do you know all these chassis numbers?
afx Posted December 26, 2015 Author Posted December 26, 2015 (edited) I have about a dozen Cobra books Gene. I make notes as I research. But I recently got the Shelby bible, the SAAC Registry. It list every car Shelby ever produced (Cobras, Mustangs, GT40s, King Cobras etc.) by chassis number. Gives the original build details of each chassis. Great reference. afx Posted December 27, 2015 Author Posted December 27, 2015 Fabricated the Dragonsnake's unique side pipes.
afx Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 Dragonsnakes were offered with (3) different induction systems: Stage I – single 4 barrel carb, rated at 270HP Stage II – dual 4-barrel carbs, rated at 300HP Stage III – Weber carbs, rated at 325HP The teams would change back and forth between the induction systems, at the strip, so that they could run in different classes. I already have a few Weber feed Cobras in the collection so I am choosing to model a Stage II car. The high rise intake and carbs come from the Monogram/Revell 427 and where modified to fit the small block. Here is what it looks like painted and plumbed.
