Kits gone at WalMart again

Walmart in Hudson, NH carries model car kits but the Walmart in Hudson/Marborough, MA does not. About a 30 mile separation.

Last time the Massachusetts Walmart had models was in the ERTL checkered box days.

I saw a news article last night that mentioned Wal Mart was getting their toy department ready for Christmas shopping earlier than usual this year, so I would imagine there was a lot of stuff that was clearance priced in anticipation of this event.

Haven't seen a model kit at Wal Mart in years that had me wanting to buy it. Lately it has either been Hobby Lobby or online for me, don't see that changing much soon unless someone opens a hobby shop in the Charlotte area.

I made my first, and probably last, trip to Hobby Lobby yesterday. monumental waste of time that was. I hate those huge sterile stores especially when there is not much to recommend them inside. do they always have one quarter of the store filled with "holiday" (since the Christ in Christmas seems to be irrelevant to the great unwashed buying public these days) carp...is it always like that or have they started "the season" already...in August? and kits...just the normal AMT/Revell stuff and not much of that either, maybe 50 kits total if even that. no Tamiya, no fujimi, didn't even see any "foreign" manufacturers represented. absolutely nothing there you cannot buy elsewhere cheaper. actually went there for some Tamiya primer...no luck, only Testors in stock. people working there seemed pleasant enough (as opposed to Michaels) but cannot see any reason to ever step foot in there again. oh for the true LHS of which there are none around here anymore (just like true independent hardware stores) so its the net for me looks like. and money is not even my prime motivator as it is for some.

I know this thread was about wallys world but seems to me two peas in a pod. the big boxing of amerika, taking your money elsewhere one five percent discount at a time.

The Christmas stuff is in earlier than normal this year, probably figure start selling it now if the public will buy it.

As far as the kits go, I remember them having some foreign kits at one time, but I think they discontinued them do to a lack of sales. IIRC, they were in the $35 range at the time when the AMT & Revell kits were $20 or less MSRP. I doubt they will take them on again, but I could be wrong.

The 40% coupon is helpful if you do find something to buy- paint, kit or otherwise. I stopped in one today and picked up a Revell Snapper Raptor for about $10 and change with tax, cheaper than the interweb and if I can, I just might get it painted this weekend!

 

back on topic- it will be interesting to see if Wally Mart brings kits back for the holidays.

You have to keep in mind that Hobby Lobby and Michaels are both craft stores, and many people like to make stuff for the holidays( Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas), so they stock the stuff early, and I am sure it has more to do about sales then anything else, but really, what is the big deal if those two stores are already selling Christmas stuff, its a part of what they do , Michaels has their Christmas stuff out too.

Now, I will join in line when WalMart/Target starts selling Christmas stuff very soon.
