cobraman Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Don't know if this has been addressed before but wondering if bodywork ( putty ) will hold up when stripping a poor paint job ? Tamiya is the putty in question. Thanks.
disabled modeler Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 (edited) Ray... I have no idea about the Tamiya filler but others I have used goes bad in the brake fluid or Purple pond plus it seems to absorb the strippers some. I spent 2 weeks doing bodywork on a wagon conversion just to have to strip the paint....and start all over again... Edited August 26, 2015 by disabled modeler
AC Norton Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 .........usually does, Ray....Tamiya, Squadron, most.....its the only drawback to big time putty work, if you have to strip it.........better quality automotive putty filler, I have found, even on very old vintage kit bodies will sometimes survive the dip,,,,but later on, when time to start over clean,,,,will start to chip and crack off........hope this can be solved for you....I know you are working on a major build right now......the Ace....
Foxer Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 I've found the same .. strippers ruin body putty. I haven't tested extensively as I don't enjoy redoing bodywork, as much as I like that part of modeling. I always just sand down paint when bodywork/stripping is required.
cobraman Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 Thanks guys. That is what I figured. So.............. I can't mess up on the paint on my Cobra with the Vette roof I'm building. : )
Snake45 Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Confiming what the others said, I've had my stripper of choice--Easy Off oven cleaner--eat out filler putty (doesn't affect CA glue or epoxy, though). But I've also stripped Testor/MM lacquer with rubbing alcohol and the putty was okay.
