kpnuts Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Ā Hi all this just arrived today, what a lot of plastic you get for 27 quid including postage Ā
Jordan White Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 It's a good kit, what are your plans for it?
jrherald420 Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Spend some time on lowering the ride height. It builds out very nice.
cobraman Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 It does build up very nicely. If you haven't built a larger kit in awhile it takes some getting used to. I had to clear some extra space on my bench.
kpnuts Posted September 10, 2015 Author Posted September 10, 2015 Well I know I shouldn't since we are off on hols in a couple of days but here is a start.I've cut one of the doors out, just the boot, the other door and the inners to go.
kpnuts Posted September 11, 2015 Author Posted September 11, 2015 Hi all a small update on this I used copper wire for this which I think is a bit too soft the door sags when opened so i think I will have to change it for some other sort of wire, I also think I need to move the hinge further back on the door so it clears the body better, but quite pleased for a first attempt at opening a closed door.
Len Woodruff Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Try using a paper clip. Much stronger.
kpnuts Posted September 13, 2015 Author Posted September 13, 2015 Hi all last update for a week as on hols in the morningUprated the door hinges, no sag nowthought I better check clearances with the internals, as you can see only about 1/2 a mill clearance, that's a lucky one.given her a coat of primer so she will have a week for that to fully cure Ā
kpnuts Posted September 22, 2015 Author Posted September 22, 2015 Hi all here is an update on this, only a quickie as we got in at 2 last night from our hols and I will be off to bed soonBase colour onMarbeling colourTop colourjust got to give it a coat of varnish then let it dry before masking up.
kpnuts Posted September 23, 2015 Author Posted September 23, 2015 Hi all well got the masking done. Ā Ā Ā
kpnuts Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 Hi all, well ive had to change the hinge as it interferes with the inner panel, then guess what the inner panel dosent even fit (opened a whole bag of worms here) the inner panel is so far out I have loads of scratching to do ( I think revell didnt worry too much about the interior since the door are supposed to be shut so no one will see much of the interior, the rear door pillar sits at a diffrent angle to the door, ti dosnt reach the roof ( there is a gap of at least 1/8 of an inch) the front part where it joins the root of the window is about the same amount of gap, wont be doing this again in a hurry.
freakshow12 Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Good start. Ā I must say though that the window weatherstrip you have on the top of the door stays with the car. Ā They have frameless windows. Ā
kpnuts Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 Thanks for that, not an easy fix with the random paint job, think I will have to paint that strip black, wish I checked that before cutting the door out would have been so much easier, will remember to check that if I do this again.
72 Charger Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Just a thought Kenneth but don't the newĀ Mustangs doors open inside the front wing? Not outside the wing !Ā Cool paint BTW
Kenny B Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Just a thought Kenneth but don't the newĀ Mustangs doors open inside the front wing? Not outside the wing !Ā Cool paint BTWGood point.Ken.
kpnuts Posted September 30, 2015 Author Posted September 30, 2015 I see what you mean I could change that by having the hinge on the door and not the wing but would need to shorten the arms of the hinge and I don't think they would then support the weight of the door, also keeping the door lined up when shut, I think would be a nightmare, no its staying as is, may change it on the next one.
kpnuts Posted September 30, 2015 Author Posted September 30, 2015 Did some more work on the engine for thisĀ Ā
kpnuts Posted October 6, 2015 Author Posted October 6, 2015 Hi all not one of my better efforts TBH I'm thinking bin time.
kpnuts Posted October 7, 2015 Author Posted October 7, 2015 Hi all well after a lot of retouching and smoothing I've got the dash on the Shelby satisfactory, its not great but it will have to do, I've made some break pipes from the sevo and added the vacuum pipe (not sure where it fits on this car but its usually on the inlet manifold somewhere)
kpnuts Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 Hi all, well whilst doing some weathering on the engine bay I started to think all this work on the engine and engine bay and you wont see any of it when its finished so, I thought, what about an engine hoist and doing it with the engine being removed, now my question is would it be possible to remove the engine and gearbox complete or would I have to separate them (which would then mean making a flywheel and bell housing and the splined shaft for the gearbox, also what else would be removed to get the engine out, I assume the injection system?
Jordan White Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Usually it's possible to remove the engine and transmission together, it mainly depends on how much room there is in the engine compartment, and whether any cross members are in the way. It would work in this case if the radiator was removed.
kpnuts Posted October 16, 2015 Author Posted October 16, 2015 Hi all, here is the last update for a long time on this one really not happy with this so I think I'm going to box it up and shelve it for a while, before I throw it at the wall, cant put my finger on whats turning me off it, I think its just the fact that nothing on it is really up to a standard I'm happy with, the paint job is not shiney enough the engine is really not one of my better weathering efforts (certainly not up to the bike standards) the door shuts lets face it are laughable and I've found out the doors open inside the wings not as I have them, it just all adds up to a piece of rubbish (yes it can all be rectified (fairly easily)) but the shine has gone off it for me and if I force myself to finish it I can see it taking a flying lesson.
kpnuts Posted November 1, 2015 Author Posted November 1, 2015 Hi all well my son has given me the motivation to finish this, its going to look radically different though. My daughter has been touring the USofA in one of theseĀ So I'm going to convert this and give it to her for christmas, I've made a start
