landman Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Dumb question: What do you experts recommend? Put the foil under the primer or between the primer and the paint?
Tom Geiger Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Guys have done it either way. Those who do it before primer, will polish it off before going to the color coat, and if you do several coats of each, polish it off every so often so paint doesn't build up too heavy to successfully polish off.Now the big issue... when you BMF the scripts you still need to cut it as close to the script as if you were doing this over the final color coat. The idea is that the paint will fill in the space in the loops of letters etc. I've seen guys who think they can put a big swab of BMF over and around the scripts as if paint will cover the edge. It won't.
StevenGuthmiller Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I've done it both ways & was much more successful foiling just before the final color coat. The less paint you have to remove from the script the better. I also have much better luck using a dab of thinner on a tooth pick or pointed swab than polishing or sanding the paint off of the script. You will go through the foil with too much polishing. You can get some pretty interesting affects with this method. Steve
