crowe-t Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 (edited) Other than Alclad and Testors Metalizer, is there an acrylic alternative that will give good 'metal' results for exhaust systems and transmission?BTW, what's a good Alclad color to use for the exaust and transmission. jeffbrad Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Vallejo oily steel is nice too for a stock type steel system
snacktruck67 Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Wher can you buy the AK?I get my stuff from Mega Hobby.
jeffbrad Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Thanks. Sounds kind of similar to rub n buff. Used that stuff on and off for years for highlighting
jeffbrad Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Mike I just started playing with that Vallejo this week. Just used it on the transmission in the 49 Olds I'm working on. Let it dry then hit with a black wash. Came out great.

If your Olds is stock, both the factory HydraMatic and the 3-speed manual transmissions would have most likely had black-painted (or possibly engine color) cast-iron housings, not bare-metal cast aluminum like you see under many more recent vehicles.
jeffbrad Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 not building it stock but thanks for the info. kind of a bash between the 2 kits. using stock engine but suspension and exhaust from custom. going to use engine from custom in the Revell hydro I'm doing next
