USNMM Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Hello all,My name is Calvin. I'm new to the site but not to model cars and trucks. I built for the better part of 10 years prior to going to college. I did the college thing for 5 years and got 2 degrees, a Bachelors in Environmental Science from the university of Pittsburgh and an Associates in HVAC/R Technology from the Pennsylvania College of Technology. At that point, I decided that I needed to get out of Pennsylvania for a while. I had always had the idea of enlisting in the military, so after the lengthy process of picking a rate and enlisting, I sit here now in Nuclear Field A-School, training to become a reactor operator for the U.S. Navy. I am rated as Machinist Mate and am Submarine volunteer, so those are my plans for at least the next 6 years.I am from rural Pennsylvania (McKean County) originally but am now stationed in Charleston, SC until at least next summer. Unfortunately, building won't be an option until at least next fall. But I will hopefully have rebuilt my stash by then (had to sell my old stash to get through college). I like to build big trucks. Spent a lot of life around people in the forestry, construction and oil and gas businesses. I also spent a lot of time helping them work on their trucks, so I kind of grew attached to that kind of stuff, particularly vocational trucks. A lot of them were old Macks and Kenworths, so I have a soft spot for those.I am looking forward to meeting you all and learning new things. I have browsed the forums a lot and finally decided to join to hopefully strike up some conversations with you all. I see a lot of respected builders on here and a lot of incredible builds. I am sure taking it all in will get the creative juices flowing for that day when I can get building again!
aurfalien Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) Wow, welcome! You are class AAA bro!I rarely read the intros but your pen name got me curious. My father was a frog man/under water demolitions expert in the 60's so I'm all about the Navy.Just about every one on this forum is or really seems pro builder and solid human beings for sure.At any rate looking forward to your posts. Sixties Sam Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Welcome, Calvin! This is a great forum. I'm from rural PA, too - in Centre County, not far from my Alma Mater, Penn State. We always had a great football rivalry with Pitt!Sam
Foggy 2 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Hi Calvin welcome from the UK, as you can see I'm truck builder mostly also some cars which I've either owned or wish I could afford to own. Currently building a Bedford SWB recovery truck and some Japanese heavy trucks I managed to pick up in Japan while working there early this year (had to buy another suitcase to get them back home to add to the stash. As you can see I'm also very interested in my name sake "Hayes" trucks which were used not only in the logging industry but also in the long haul as well, I'm also on the Hayes truck forum as well loads of really good info but nothing like getting to crawl over an actual rig and take loads of photo's.I imagine no chance of modelling while at sea so it's only on shore that you can get stuck in, excuse the pun!!!!!! If you ever need any European truck data etc just drop me a line.Rgds,John.
