Now you're gettin' down there!! You gotta get 'em low enough to make the snails scared! You know, put a rotary blade up under the cab and "mow the lawn way down close" kind of low.

At least 2" front clearance without bags if its gonna be on the street!! What do you think about lowering the bed?

I can trim more in the rear of the cab to keep things lined up...but I might lose some of that rake!!

Personally, I like the top of the bed to be no higher than the beltline of the body...and you're just about there... You could cut out and raise the floor of the bed to get it a bit lower, but I wouldn't go too far... The only other thing I'd do now would be to cut the front of the frame rails so that they're pointing forward again.

Hello there friend! yeah your right these guys can leave you itchin for scratch! Ive never built one of these time machines but I like how it looks! If youre still uncertain of the bed maybe add some side paneling to the lower end of the bed' maybe tuck away the chassis shown beneah the bed. However I do like the way bed sits flush w the cab! Its just you have a mean rake goin on!Excellent progress so far! None the less "Keep on wit the keepin on!!!

All I have to say is the frt. frame horns look kinda funny to me, think the shouldn't angle towards the sky. I want to know about the 38 sedan delivery, from anyone.

That's the old Testors Vantastic kit #5309 from 1998. It has the same engine and chassis as the Boyd's Smoothster and Coupster models.

The Bed :unsure::blink::unsure::blink:

Hope this works!!!

Materials needed:

1\16th" thick 1/4" wide basswood found in rc plane area.

(I use bass not balsa)

.10" (2.5mm) evergreen #273 I Beams

cardstock

tape

tenax cement or similar

IMG_0491.jpg

Start by cutting out a template that fits snugly into the box, out of cardstockIMG_0492.jpg

Cut 2 each pcs of I Beam the EXACT width needed.these are the front and rear. With a sharp blade remove 3 of the 4 lips on each.

Next cut as many planks as you will need...lay them side by side on template, the number needed depends on the width of your bed 6 or 7 is common. These should be the length of the template

IMG_0494.jpgIMG_0495.jpg

Now cut lengths of I Beam to proper length 1 less than planks

Inspect wood planks and I Beams for burrs etc and remove. Now lay out your planks and I Beamson top of the template ,work slowly and you will dry fit the parts with the tape. If your finished width is wider than your template, remove the center 1 or 2 planks and thin them for the correct fit.

Once satisfied cement weld 1 end to the ends of the I Beams the lip

( goes up and in)IMG_0497.jpg

DAfter it is dry remove the tape and planks now you can paint your framework and the other end.

IMG_0504.jpg

once dry reassemble with tape underneath. I like light wood but if dark is wanted stain them now!

once together I spray 3 or 4 coats of duplicolor clear lacquer on entire surface let dry and now fit into bed... you may need to file end down for the other end piece to fit in snugly. Use a course sanding stick till you can slide it in .If wanted flip it out and you can weld it on also

IMG_0508.jpgDoesn't this look better than this??IMG_0502.jpg

You can also BMF the Beams...I would do it after the clear .

Now lets see some Bedwork :unsure::blink::blink::blink:

Mike,

I'm all for the big engine and big tires!! I don't know about the big brakes...it's just not dangerous enough if you can stop, too!:lol:

Did I mention brake lines ? did't think so!!:blink::P:P;)

Sweet ride! Great job! I love when the builds are documented with lots of pics.

Are you going to Rat it out, or make it a show truck? That may help decide which tires you go with... I think both sets of tires look great (IMHO).

I had suicided my front spring on the low rat I built and I think it came out pretty good. I altered the front spring and raised the rear frame where the axle mounted, but hadn't Z'd the frame. I was able to get it Very low (as in sliding a piece f paper under it, but nothing else).

Keep the pics coming!
