Miatatom Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 I've just bought a Paasche H. It came with the #5 color adjusting part and air cap. If I use a #1 or #3 color adjusting part, do I need the corresponding air cap? What effect would it have if I just used the #5 air cap?
Mike 1017 Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 You gotta use the right air cap with the corresponding adjusting part. As far as mixing & matching go give it a try.
GeeBee Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 You really need to use matched sets of needle and cap, not only do the #1 & 3 have a different diameter to the #5, the taper at the end is different, I've learnt that from experience, i use a #5 set up to paint my car bodies using automotive lacquer without and problem with the compressor set at 20 p.s.i
Art Anderson Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Yes, by all means match the "Material Control" (that is what this unit is called by Paasche) needle with the correct sleeve, as mixing these parts can result in your splitting the hollow sleeve out at the tip (ask me how I know this!). It's easy, as each set of Material Control parts is ID'd very easy for you: #1 needle and tip each have a single groove around them, #3 have three grooves, and #5 has, of course, five grooves. If you damage the tip (the hollow tapered sleeve) by getting a split or crack in it, paint will "puddle" there briefly, before being "spit" off and into your paintjob as a little blob--and that WILL show, trust me.Art
