lordairgtar Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 Whatever it is now, I don't know..... I can tell you that car rolled off the assembly line originally as a VW Scirocco, around 75-78 vintage. That pic is quite the amalgamation of 80's stuff. I see maybe Ford LTD or Granada front clip. Weird!!! ....and YES to Dragon7665! CORRECT! You are right. They did use the bulk of a Scirocco and built the hybrid around it. I think the front was a one off design, although those wheel arches sure look close to the Marquis I used to own.

It was a Marathon C-360 delevery van.
Dragon7665 Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 geez, way to steal my picture! I read in SCC that it won't be coming to the US......AT ALL, just in European countries, which they said they are kind of glad.. not sure why. what year? Meh I just did a Google Image Search for a Sciro, and the Best Pic happened to be that one As for the new one not coming here, yeah VW is basically saying that it wouldn't be cost effective for them to ship them over from their Spain Plant... Yet they know that they have rediculous amounts of pre-order requests for them, and their New Eos Hardtop Convertibles that are built at the same plant are selling like Hotcakes!! What I mean by them not coming to the States within the next ten years, is that VW has been scoping out locations here in the States to build a new plant, which might actually give them a better standing to affordably offer more of their models here... Also there is a pretty good chance that some of the new Sciro's will make it to Canada, or othering Neighboring Countries, which would mean some will more than likely find their ways here(I know quite a few Euro/South America only Cars/Trucks that have made it here from Canada and Mexico)
lordairgtar Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 The Briggs and Straton Hybird? It wasn't anything close to a Scirocco. It was a Marathon C-360 delevery van. Sorry, my memory was a bit shaky. Although the door and windshield resembles the first series VW Scirocco, it is indeed based on the Marathon delivery van, with a body designed by Brook Stevens. The VW reference came from my grandfather who worked at Briggs and showed me the car. He thought some VW body panels might have been used in making the car, but it appears he was wrong. The car is cool and as far as I know it exists still somewhere within the Briggs company.
dub Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 This car: has parts from one of these cars: Those doors, mirrors and front of roof are Scirocco.
Nick F40 Posted May 21, 2008 Author Posted May 21, 2008 This car: has parts from one of these cars: Those doors, mirrors and front of roof are Scirocco. I see the resembulance....like the mirrors. What year is that Rocco? I like the IROC (scIROCco) and as the for the new one, it's basically a widened, higher, lengthened, Golf.
dub Posted May 21, 2008 Posted May 21, 2008 What year is that Rocco? Its an 80 or 81 "S" model. I had one that was Mars Red(very orange), same model. This is just a quick pic I found to show the similarities.

It may have used some Vdub parts but it did start life as a Marathon delivery van; however, it did not originally roll off the assembly line as a Scriocco.
Modellpularn Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) How about this one? I know what it is now, the prototype Volvo Philip. But it looks like a Kaiser..... rumour has it Volvo used the Kaiser body panels straight off. So finally,... I can now go to sleep for a few hours.. yawn, good night, or...good day, it's 10:22 in the morning here now, and have to get up in a few hours, at 3:00 PM....jeezzZZZz Edited May 22, 2008 by Modellpularn

Nick F40 Posted May 22, 2008 Author Posted May 22, 2008 hey now, Anti Christ? you like Datsun more I guess. You are right on the Datsun but the year is wrong.
dub Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Ok, I'll guess the year. How about a 77(?) Datsun bullet side pickup.
sfhess Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 I'd say 73 or 74 Datsun pickup. I used to drive one for work back when they were new.
