I've been thinking about building one of my old MPC '78 Silver Anniversary Corvettes http://www.iagclassics.com/CarPix/78CorvetteAnniversary/ebay/78-Corvette-Anniversary-001.jpg and I wondered if it could be done using Model Masters Metalizers to paint the body.

I can already see some issues that might complicate things:

1) I'm not sure there's a Metalizer that'll replicate the main silver color.

2) I don't know how well Metalizer will stand up to all the masking required for this paint job.

3) From past discussions, it doesn't sound like Metalizers work well over primers.

If I end up using a regular silver hobby paint for the main color, will I still be able to use a Metalizer for the lower shade?  (Will it adhere?)

Bonus question:  If I need them, are aftermarket pinstripe decals available for this kit?

TIA for all helpful replies & pics with descriptions of your own work.

Forget it if you plan on doing any masking directly on the metalizer itself.

The tape will peel off sections of the surface ruining the finish. Metalizer paint is very fragile in that respect.

You can spray a clear coat over the top of it first, but that will completely obliterate the "metal" affect of the paint making it look like just plain old silver.

I did a Porsche 911 in their Nonbuffing Aluminum covered with their Metalizer Sealer and it came out great. Best silver paint I've ever gotten on a model car.

For silver cars try Tamiya TS-17 Gloss Aluminum. It has very good in scale pigment and goes on great without needing a gloss coat
