72 Charger Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I have just got a Johan (USA Oldies) Olds tornado from ebay the other day . I started to strip off the very old layers of paint on the engine only to find that the rocker boxes have Cadillac on them...?Is this an error in the kit or did the Tornado really have a Caddi motor ? Or did Johan cut a corner and just put there 64 Caddi engine in?
disabled modeler Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Dave...The Eldorado had the Cadillac covers but the Toronado didn't originally...may have been a late run before they closed up just to fill the kit...?
72 Charger Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 Interesting did they ever make an Olds engine or rocker boxes that say Oldsmobile ?
Mark Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 All of the Toronado and front-drive Eldorado kits include Oldsmobile engines. '65-up Cadillac V8 engines had the distributor at the front, among other differences. Jo-Han never tooled a decent late Cadillac mill (nor did anyone else, for that matter). The Oldsmobile engine's valve covers had no lettering or script.
72 Charger Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 Thanks for that Mark . I may just swap the valve covers for flat ones
Draggon Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I've got the 70 Toronado and it has Cadillac script on the valve covers.
