landman Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 (edited) Back in the day I owned a 1976 example with steel wheels, 4 speed, no back seat, a 8000 lb. Warn winch and the 258 6 cylinder engine . Much later, I had built this model of it. The model has spoked wheels with Tracker AT tires and the 304 V8, a back seat and no winch. I found some steel wheels. Does the AMC 6 cyl. exist anywhere? I think I could scratch up a winch in a pinch. I also found a blue which is closer to the original. Edited December 31, 2020 by landman
Fabrux Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 The engine you're looking for was in the MPC AMC Pacer kit. Looking good!

426-Hemi Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Yeah who ever said first the engine you need would be in the MPC AMC Pacer kit! -Had an interesting valve cover for a straight 6......
gatorincebu Posted December 15, 2015 Posted December 15, 2015 Cool rebuild. I really like the shop dio! Be Well Gator
landman Posted December 16, 2015 Author Posted December 16, 2015 (edited) The steel wheels are noticeably smaller than the kit's. Played with shortening the axle stubs and adding spacers to get the right spacing. I think they'll look pretty much like the ones on my Jeep did. Edited December 31, 2020 by landman
landman Posted December 17, 2015 Author Posted December 17, 2015 (edited) Painted some detail on the chassis parts. Started on the blue. Had to re-dip the main body as the blue reacted with the primer which was different. Should have known better. Edited December 31, 2020 by landman
426-Hemi Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 NIICE work man! This is the old Monogram kit right? Your doing it some fine justice man!
landman Posted December 17, 2015 Author Posted December 17, 2015 NIICE work man! This is the old Monogram kit right? Your doing it some fine justice man! Thanks John. I couldn't tell you what kit it was. I never paid attention to where they were from and I never keep boxes. But it could be. Now that I'm on here, I think I might have been better to at least keep a list or save the box covers.

IF my memory serves me right, the Monogram CJ-7's were all cast plastic in blue. -If so, I had this kit MANY a year ago, pushing 20 years now......
gatorincebu Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 (edited) Pat, looking good so far ! I like what you are doing on this one. Be Well Gator Edited December 19, 2015 by gatorincebu
Nova-ss Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Ready for the purple bath. Nice build dude.love the body cart you have under the jeep body.looks like things are going well...Chris
landman Posted December 18, 2015 Author Posted December 18, 2015 (edited) Detailed and added the wheels. Body with the second go-around. No wrinkling this time. This blue is closer to what mine was. I added another picture of it below which is more representative than the ones in the first post. Edited December 31, 2020 by landman
landman Posted December 19, 2015 Author Posted December 19, 2015 (edited) Straightened the hoist Cylinder (3 photos above). Started detailing the body, turn signals, dash, fender rubbers etc. Two small gauges left to do. Edited December 31, 2020 by landman
gatorincebu Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Pat, This one is looking real nice about now ! Looking forward to seeing it finished. Be Well Gator
landman Posted December 20, 2015 Author Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) Merci Marc. Tonight, all I did was put the roll bar back together. That was a challenge in itself. Edited December 31, 2020 by landman
426-Hemi Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 NICE man! The effort your putting into this one is showing VERY well!it was blue, then it was the old Monogram kit, was a nice one, I built that same kit something like 20 years ago myself (MINE however wound up going and getting a scratchbuilt snow plow on it), and about 6 years ago lost it to a house fire a long with about 500 other models I had then!Lookin' good tho! Can't wait to see what ya do on the engine!

426-Hemi Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Yeah I thought I had read that you were going for the straight 6 in it so.....
landman Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 (edited) Boo-boo's galore. First I installed the windshield before painting the rubber. So I took it out, painted the rubber and installed a new acetate window. Then I broke the roll bar I spent half of last night repairing. Once of that was enough. I made a new one. Don't worry, the kink will get filed down. Installed the rad/support, firewall and hood hinge retainer. Edited December 31, 2020 by landman
426-Hemi Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 NICE re-furbishing old kits, isn't it fun!? Your definitely doing this justice! It sure is gonna be different seeing a straight 6 in it tho (I recall my old kit, with the 304 (I THINK it was a 304) So, I'm kinda re-living building mine watching you, rebuild yours!
