GaryR Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 I mean a list of what exactly they are and what kits have them. For example, "Robinson-Montgomery Magnesium Blower"-AMT 33 WillysAnsen air scoop-AMT parts pack Pontiac. And so on.The directory could be revised and additions made. Some kits, like old Revell are very accurate and specific as to identifying parts, most aren't.What do you think?
Harry P. Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 I'm sure a lot of people would like that. The problem is getting someone to actually do it. And constantly working to keep it current/accurate.
GaryR Posted December 20, 2015 Author Posted December 20, 2015 I'm "retired", (laid off), have free time and just might start it at least. It would be cool to have data bases of all kinds of stuff: which kits have engine stands, cement blocks, tape recorders etc.I'm not promising anything, but if enough builders would actually use it, I might give it a shot.
GaryR Posted December 20, 2015 Author Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) A reference section might be a good addition here. Chris Sobak's fine charts of scale lines and fitting is a good example! Included in that thread is this chart from Chuck at Altered States that answers a LOT of drag model questions I see online. It's linked in the Sobak thread, but kind of buried. People might want to save it as a .GIF. GIVE ME SOME FEEDBACK AND I MIGHT DO THIS!! Edited December 20, 2015 by GaryR
Greg Myers Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 In this computer age I'v often wondered why something like this isn't done.
GaryR Posted December 20, 2015 Author Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) Give me feedback as to what format, chart ( like above), simple sorted list. ETC> ALSO, since I don't know EVERYTHING, it would take contributions by members. Also, of course I can be WRONG, but I will not waste time arguing about things or responding to off topic stuff, in fact off topic posts should be prohibited. Help me out here guys! YOUR THOUGHTS? Garlits and Snake talk over the drag reference idea! photo by me! Edited December 20, 2015 by GaryR
snacktruck67 Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Gary, if you are willing, this would be a great thing to have.
Harry P. Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Give me feedback as to what format, chart ( like above), simple sorted list. ETC>If you know how to work Microsoft Excel, that would be the ideal format for you to put this together. Excel is designed specifically for creating spreadsheets like this.
Roadrunner Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 If you know how to work Microsoft Excel, that would be the ideal format for you to put this together. Excel is designed specifically for creating spreadsheets like this.Yep, it'd be a piece of cake using Excel.
GaryR Posted December 20, 2015 Author Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) If you know how to work Microsoft Excel, that would be the ideal format for you to put this together. That's what is was thinking, I'm a little rusty but I could do it. I'm not sure how I'd go about posting that format on line though. Plenty of time to figure it out I guess. I figure info should be :part, function, year(s) of use and source. Also a pic of the real thing if I can. Gratuitous drag pic (by me). Restored Eagle Electric AA/FD from Seattle, WA. 1966. I LOVED That Hanna fin body. No slipper clutches they, smoked 'em all the way down! Great days. Edited December 20, 2015 by GaryR
Roadrunner Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) Just for kicks, I uploaded an Excel sheet, seems to be easy enough.Wingnut kits.xlsx Edited December 20, 2015 by Roadrunner Apparently I can't spell anymore.
1930fordpickup Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 This sounds like a good idea, that could be used for many different options in the kits. Ramps, trophy's, bucket seat, engine type, custom wheels and parts ............. Do you have to read it line by line or can you do a search with excel?
GaryR Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 This sounds like a good idea, that could be used for many different options in the kits. Ramps, trophy's, bucket seat, engine type, custom wheels and parts ............. Do you have to read it line by line or can you do a search with excel? I don't know exactly how it will work at this point. I can't list EVERY type of part made, somebody else needs to volunteer to do other than drag parts!Let's go slow here!
Toner283 Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Have you checked out TRaK? There is a section on the forum called where did you get it. it has a listing of traditional style parts available in various kits. Might want to check over there for some ideas. Also Gary, have you checked out Vintage Drag Models? They are a hardcore vintage drag site no modern stuff allowed. It might take a few days to get approved to view the site but it is worth it.
GaryR Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 I get nothing Googling TRak. Is the spelling correct? Never heard of it, how about a link?I'm a member of Vintage Drag, don't go there much though.
Toner283 Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Traditional Rod and Kustom in scale. Kinda like the H.A.M.B. but in plastic.http://trakinscale.proboards.com/
GaryR Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 Hmmm, doesn't really seem to be that much interest considering the work involved.
Roadrunner Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 (edited) Do you have to read it line by line or can you do a search with excel? Yes, Excel is easily searchable, and will list any data included in any cell, regardless of where that cell is located within the workbook worksheet, and will list results of entire worksheet search. GaryR Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 Not enough response for me to do this, if things change I'll reconsider. Thanks anyway.
Roadrunner Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 My apologies in advance, but do you really believe that less than one day offers a sufficient degree of interest determination?
GaryR Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 My apologies in advance, but do you really believe that less than one day offers a sufficient degree of interest determination? It tells me how many people read this forum and how many are drag builders, seems not many either way.I said I will reconsider if their is more interest shown. Sorry but I am not going to do a weeks long project for ten builders. Not tee'd off, just the way it is!
Roadrunner Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 I hear ya'. Perhaps Harry would OK moving this to the racing forum, those fellas might show more interest. It's odd perhaps, but as much as I like racing cars (quarter milers mostly), I seldom visit that section of the site. Perhaps I need to change that.
