1. are they lacquer??

2. based on the answer to questions one, can i clear over them with something other than metalizer sealer??

i dont know if they are laquer or not but they smell like cancer to me.

i never clear over them, that seems to take away the "metal" look you get by buffing them and they then just look like painted parts. ive found the best finish is achieved by spraying them, buffing them and then avoid touching them as much as possible.

The Metalizers are lacquers, but a very "cool" lacquer. Be careful what you use over them; try it on a plastic spoon, first. There are so many variables with any paint that making general statements about what is "safe" and what is not is pretty risky.

It's correct that over=spraying them with clear cuts the metal look.

You can clear coat o'er them, but it won't look like metal

I shot Tamiya Clear over Metalizers Gunmetal to achieve the finish I wanted on thisTamiya Honda CBR XX Blackbird motorcycle

My local hobby shop said that the metalizer sprays are no longer listed in the catalog and they can't get them any more. Anyone else hear this?

So far, I prime with trusty Duplicolor, do the metallizer spray and leave it as is. I've been using their stainless steel and aluminum and it looks good. I'll have to try buffing it a little the next time I use it.

bob you will be surprised how metallic (not metallic paint, but real metal) they look when you buff them, especially, in my experience, the aluminum plate. just using the paint and not buffing it is only getting about ten percent of the effect.

are they being discontinued? man i am going to have to stock up fast, like tomorrow, because ive become addicted to them for engine and running gear detail and ive been wanting to use the alum plate on a full body one of these days, kind of like steve hinson i think it was used some to simulate raw metal under a worn away paint job, total cool look there.
