  1. I built a model of this car and it is the Virginia Transportation Museum in Roanoke. They have a wing dedicated to Curtis Turner there. The story on this car, so I've heard is Smokey did modify this car quite a bit. It was before NASCAR used templates to verify vehicle profiles. Smokey being Smokey he had a stock Chevelle modified to match the race car placed in the parking lot. When NASCAR questioned the profile of the race car, Smokey led them to the parking lot and pointed out his planted Chevelle and let NASCAR measure it and compare to the race car...no problem! Curtis Turner did race this car, but he had a big accident and totaled the car. After the race, Smokey said that this was his last car he would build for NASCAR because he didn't want to build the car that killed Curtis Turner. Both Smokey and Curtis were both a couple of characters making NASCAR fun in the 50's and 60's.
  2. Can't help you there, 1/25 is an unusual scale for F1 cars.
  3. Yes I did glue the air cleaner, but with canopy glue...removed it and the hood closes perfectly, thanx. Also my one and only build of these.
  4. Sorry, put this in the wrong topic, should be in NASCAR completed model
  5. SalvinosJR model of the Toyota Christopher Bell drove at Daytona in 2023. A very complicated kit not for the faint of heart. I did have issues with the instructions, parts misslabeled and not clear on how to fit/placement of some parts. Decals are excellent, but had to refer to actual photos of the real car to get proper placement...instruction sheet is sketchy at best. Paint is Tamiya TS-14 Black, everything else is decals. Only added detail was the screen on the drivers door. I wanted it to look as it would before Mr. Bell got in the car. Overall it turned out to be a very nice looking model of the real car. thanx for looking
  6. My first post on the forum for close to 5 years...Jr Salvinos 1979 Oldsmobile 442 driven by AJ Foyt. Built purty much straight out of the box. added netting to drivers side. Paint is Scalefinishes Poppy Red. Excellent decals. instructions do have mislabeled parts, it was easy to figure out which ones they mean. Chrome finish on the bumpers, etc a little too garish for me. Overall a fun and challenging kit to build. thanx for looking
  7. I finally found you...excellent build buddy. Your dad will really like it. You gonna have Steve 3D print a figure of Chris to put in the drivers seat? Looking forward to seeingg it at NNL West or Desert Scale Classic.
  8. No Bruce, I parted with that model many years ago. But I will be at NNL West.
  9. Purchased this model at the GSL Auction in Salt Lake City. The kit is complete except for one crucial part, the right half of the exhaust outlet, see attached photo. Looking for someone to send me the part so I can resin cast and send back to them. or even better someone to 3D print the part. I will pay for shipping to and fro and cost of 3D printed part. Thank You
  10. Thanx Scott, I have set of IndyCal Decals for the car, waiting for them to have the resin tires back in stock. I plan on doing a fairly detailed model of it. Right now the kit is at John Teresi's. I flew to Salt Lake and John transported my models and those I bought back to Van Nuys. I will be picking them up from him at your show in October c'ya in October
  11. The MPC 1/20th scale Lotus Turbine Indycar... and I picked one up at the GSL Auction for $105.
  12. Very Nice John, I'm happy to see that Bo Derek is monitoring your workbench! Carry On young man...
  13. Thank you Mitchell, that was 7 years ago. I don't know what happened to the model. thanx for bringing back the memories of building it.
  14. I went with the straight bevel as in Daniels photographs. I went to a lot nostalgia drag races and almost all the the rims had a straight bevel.
  15. Alas, I found a machine shop in my hometown and they machine my rims for me. a Big-Big time saver, plus every rim is consistent.
  16. Excellent work Pierre, Fortunately I stumbled on your thread before you finished the car. Your detail work is very inspiring. I have the Revell Jaguar D to build and will incorparate some of your technics in that build. Except I will be airbrushing the paint, I can't believe how smooth your brush paint method works...fantastic!
  17. Yah, I was talking to Paul also and he said the same...I'm trying to contact MFH, but no response, yet. It was good talking to you as well. I'm enjoying your build, c'ya!
  18. Love watching people build MFH models...I have built a few and just started on this one I picked it up the NNL West last June. I opened it up over a month ago and the photo-etch parts are missing. I have contacted MFH about replacing them, but have not got a response. Any help would greatly be appreciated, thank you "Keep on Building"
  19. You are correct, they did not race at the Speedway, but at the Indianapolis Raceway. Somehow in my typing my brain said Raceway, but my fingers said Speedway.
  20. Curtis Turner was banned from racing in NASCAR from 1962 through 1964. Bill France did not approve of him trying to unionize the drivers in NASCAR, so banned him. Due to dwindling numbers of people coming to watch the NASCAR guys, Bill France invited the popular Curtis Turner to return to NASCAR. Being banned from NASCAR did not keep Curtis from racing though. He competed in a number of USAC Stock Car and even a couple of Indy Car races. Following are a couple models of the cars he raced in USAC in 1963 and 1964. First is the 1963 Ford Galaxie he drove to a 3rd place finish for Holman-Moody at the Indianapolis Speedway on April 28, 1963. Second is the 1964 Ford Galaxy he drove to 20th place finish for Holman-Moody at the Indianapolis Speedway on May 3, 1964. Both models will be sent to the Curtis Turner Wing in the Virginia Museum of Transportation for display. Thanx for lookin'
