IMC 1/25 Mecom Lola T70 Spyder: Donor Parts?

hi guys, i just got a nice unbuilt IMC 1/25 scale Mecom Lola T70 Spyder and am now considering my options. This kit does have a reputation for being particularly fiddly and given the lack of detail on most components, i'm left wondering if i might have been better served by buying a Tamiya 1/24 Slot Car Body and scratch-building the bulk of it. I may yet go that route and use the IMC kit for reference here & there. can you suggest a good source for a detailed, correct Hewland transaxle, half-shafts, brakes etc?

The Lola most likely would run a Hewland LG500 / 600.

The only one I can recall that's right or even close to it in 1/24 is from the Accurate Miniatures McLaren M8 kits. Halfshafts, uprights and brakes should also be in the ballpartk.

Part of the problem you may run across trying to transplant detail into the IMC kit is due to its under-sized nature. I haven't measured one out, but I've heard people say it's more like 1/27 scale!

Sounds like you have it covered, but this might be another option: HRM makes a detail kit for the GT40 that contains some of the parts you'd need:

But again, it's 1/24 scale, so it's going to be a squeeze into the IMC kit.

Years ago MiniExotics made a Lola T-70 resin kit in both curbside and full detail versions that I think was based on the K&B slot car body. Not easy or cheap to find these days I'm afraid.

RancheroSteve, i did notice the scale issue, particularly in the engine components. It looks like a small V6!. I believe i am going to use the Tamiya slot-car body and open up the front and rear bonnets after finalizing a monocoque tub configuration and fitment. The opening doors i can do without as I believe that aspect to be the fiddliest of the fiddly on the IMC kit due to the relatively unsupported cowl structure. The detail-up kit from HRM does look nice. The GT40 and the T-70 are at least fraternal twins in some senses by birth given their Lola Mk 6 parentage; but I'm not certain of how much is similar by the MkII generations of each are shared in terms of suspension, transaxle, etc.

Mini-Exotics did.  I have the full detail kit down in the basement stash (top of second column from right).

This kit has a lot of white metal castings for detail, but was north of $125 when new.
