Custom Mike Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) David, here's a link to the pics on my Fotki page, since I can't get pictures to load here, I also sent Kevin over at Missing Link a message on Facebook to see if it's still available.http://public.fotki.com/customike/works-in-progress/1972-dodge-charger-/ Edited January 28, 2016 by Custom Mike
72 Charger Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 Thanks for that Mike yes that is the hood I need . I hope they do still do it as it would make life a bit easier . I did get some more bodywork done last night but nothing worth posting yet
Deathgoblin Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 Check Time Machine Resin. They have a flat hood for the Charger:http://www.timemachineresin.bravehost.com/moparhoods.html

72 Charger Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 I know this is not the greatest pic ,Can anyone help I need to get a bench seat with a similar stripping on. The seat splits in the middle . Or could anyone let me know how to recreate this pattern please
drodg Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 What about Harts Parts 72 Charger Hood that is flat? I would think that with some adjustment would fit the AMT Charger?
72 Charger Posted January 29, 2016 Author Posted January 29, 2016 Almost got the body sorted out the yellow is filler primer . Front and rear assembled and primed. Comments welcomed
Custom Mike Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 (edited) What about Harts Parts 72 Charger Hood that is flat? I would think that with some adjustment would fit the AMT Charger?David, I didn't see a flat hood listed on their page. The one that Brian posted from Time Machine looks like the exact same hood I've got, rear vents included, so if I was looking for one currently, I'd go with the Time Machine piece, and for $5, it's a pretty good deal...but I've never ordered from them, so I wouldn't be able to vouch for the quality, but I'm sure someone here has bought a piece from them.EDIT: Time Machine also has the hideaway headlight inserts if you want/need them, click on the link and scroll down to the last item on the page, only $2 a set!http://www.timemachineresin.bravehost.com/parts.html Edited January 30, 2016 by Custom Mike
1972coronet Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Time Machine Resins 1973 Charger SE looks like a nice piece . Their 'gallery' exhibits a built version , and it looks stunning !
CapSat 6 Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 I know this is not the greatest pic ,Can anyone help I need to get a bench seat with a similar stripping on. The seat splits in the middle . Or could anyone let me know how to recreate this pattern please As far as I know, nobody makes these seats. Mopar had many upholstery patterns available, even multiple patterns for the same car in the same year among different models. Www.hartspartsresin.com does several Mopar front bench seats that could work as starting points. If you want to go the route of trying to replicate those exact seats, then my advice would be to work with plastic. I'll briefly describe the process down further. You could start with any kit bench seat, but you'd be a little closer using either the bench seat from the Revell Monogram 1970 Road Runner kit, or the bench from the AMT '68 Road Runner. I think the Revell '70 RR bench would be the best starting point- it has a pretty plain pattern that you could sand down pretty easily, plus, I think the shape really looks the part. I have spent some time with bench-seat '70's B-Bodies, and I think the '72 Bench you have shares the same seat frame assembly as the '70 bench, as in the Road Runner. You would essentially: 1) Sand down the existing upholstery pattern. 2) Cut out the insserts- the sculpted fields / panels within the seats with the patterns you don't need. 3) build new inserts mimicking the right patterns, using quarter- round plastic, scrap plastic and/ or sprue. You would sand off the top of the curve length-wise in order to shape it more like a single pleat first, then join the 7 or so pleats you would need for the top portion of the pattern with a lower portion formed/ shaped from scrap for the seat back pattern, and join the 10 or so pleats to form the seat bottom pattern. You would then cut each piece to fit the windows that you cut out of each seat, then fill any gaps. I have seen this technique used in a few magazine articles. I have never attempted it myself. It does not seem easy. Your other alternative would be to sand the detail off of the seat, lay a thick layer of epoxy onto the seats, and sculpt or carve the pattern onto the epoxy. I'd be more likely to try the first method than the epoxy method. Here are some pics, showing the '70 Road Runner bench compared to the '71 Charger bench. It's a bit wider, so you might have to cut it down, but I mocked it up in an unbuilt '71 Charger and the fit doesn't seem overly tight. You could also just cut the upper portion of the RR bench free and combine it with the '71 Charger bottom, piecing something together that might be a better look or fit.

Quality on that one is very nice, cast in white resin, & the casting and master work seems really good.
72 Charger Posted January 29, 2016 Author Posted January 29, 2016 Thank you Bill that is very helpful . I think that I will have to dig through the parts box to get a bench seat that I can try to match the pattern some what. At least I have good reference I have just ordered a flat hood from Time Machine Resins . I have to get under the 1/1 to get pics of where all the break lines and fuel lines go . So I will be getting the car up on a lift at the local garage this week all being well
Custom Mike Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 David, take lots of reference pics please, my memory is good, but I'm sure I could use a refresher, the last I saw of mine was in 1988.
crazyrichard Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 looking great !! about the bench .. you could draw the design on a flattened bench .. and with a fresh supersharp exacto knife carefully cut the lines in .. when done go over then a second time and then maybe even do a 3th step with a scriber or other hard steel pin ...
72 Charger Posted January 30, 2016 Author Posted January 30, 2016 Thanks Richard . im looking at all the bench seats that I have and im going to try to sculp with filler on top . Well that's the plan
72 Charger Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 Thanks Dan I was under the 1/1 this morning on my back Just checking some colours shocks will be white as there adjustable. The K member is satin black under the dirt and grime, chassis rails are body colour the axel and drive shaft will be satin black also. I did notice that I will have to change the front breaks for disks. Fuel tank is aluminium and I will have to weather the front half of the exhaust pipes as the rear half is brand new . I was very surprized that that the kit is quite accurate to the 1/1 underneath . So it should be fairly strait forward to put in the break and fuel lines. I have just about got all the bodywork done and should be able to get it primed tonight flatted tomorrow and with a bit of luck get some colour on as well . I have also drilled for plug wires on the engine. I just have to paint the distributer grey to match the 1/1 . Comments welcome
louie Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Absolutely loving this. Lot's of great information on the different years. Thank you and keep up the good work. Been following this one. Thanks. Jeff
72 Charger Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 Thanks Jeff I hope to get some good pics when the weather picks up a bit. My car is only the Base model but it is very interesting to see all the difference's
72 Charger Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 Well I just started getting the front and rear bumpers ready for dry fitting. Then I noticed that the bumpers don't have any over riders on them like the 1/1. So that's just one more thing that I will have to scratch build
72 Charger Posted February 6, 2016 Author Posted February 6, 2016 Well the body work continues You can see that the body has now been flatted ready for top coat. Apart from some slight issues on the passenger door where the slats were . This will be re filled again . Normally I would of passed it and said it was ready but as it will be a copy it needs to right....! I have got the paint that is as close to the cars exterior colour but it has been repainted at some point in its life . The colour on the inside of the doors is slightly different it is a bit more metallic . So I will decant the paint into the airbrush and add a tiny bit of silver to it to try and match the original Light metallic green that Dodge intended . Comments as always welcomed good or bad
