Custom Mike Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Yeah, that's just a bit closer than it should be. I've got nothing, none of mine had that issue, or the windshield issues. I may have just been lucky for once!
72 Charger Posted May 30, 2016 Author Posted May 30, 2016 I have thought of shifting the front frame back a MM or two . As a quick fix we will see
72 Charger Posted June 12, 2016 Author Posted June 12, 2016 (edited) Progress has been made The carpet is a mix of black and bright green Kens fuzzy fur. the Chassis has been cut and moved back 2mm for a perfect wheel base. The front wheels now miss hitting fender thankfully. The hood has come on a lot too . I have added a brass rod down the middle and filled along it to get the peak. The rear lights need a bit more work as the resin insert just stretches the bumper out of shape . The front light doors have been cut and I'm planning to make the doors lift After some work the seats are close to the car pattern . The roof has been a major head ache for me and I am still not happy with the result...! After three attempts I managed to get a stippled effect but it looks nothing like the gator skin As always comments good or bad welcomed or if you have any ideas on how to get the roof correct Edited February 4, 2017 by 72 Charger
72 Charger Posted August 20, 2016 Author Posted August 20, 2016 Hi all I will be doing an interior update soon now I have got some green paint close to the correct shades of the 1/1 . There is actually 8 different shades of green for the interior including the rood lining !
Ramfins59 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Dave, I'm sorry that I haven't commented on this build sooner. You're doing some fantastic work on this replica and it is looking great. I can't wait to see it finished.
Mopar - D Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Dave looking forward to seeing more progress.
72 Charger Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 Thanks Dan/Rich its been a bit stalled just of late. I was having problems finding the colours for the interior . I have been dragging my heals with the PE parts . I just cant bring myself to glue onto the paint. So I'm looking for an alternative to glue for the Charger badges on the side of the rear quarter ?.
o-man Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 I just cant bring myself to glue onto the paint. So I'm looking for an alternative to glue for the Charger badges on the side of the rear quarter ?.I've read where some people have used Future on them. Great work so far
Custom Mike Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 (edited) Dave, I always use Testors Clear acrylic paint to get scripts to stay on the body. Paint the Clear on the back of the script, apply it to the body, and you're good to go! These were done back around 2004, and are still holding perfectly! Edited November 7, 2016 by Custom Mike
72 Charger Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 Thanks Oscar I'm not sure on Future it is quite thin stuff . I may just use clear enamel its quite thick
72 Charger Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 Thanks Mike that was my next thing to try . Nice Charger BTW
72 Charger Posted August 22, 2016 Author Posted August 22, 2016 I wasn't happy with the fact that the hood I had was for a 74 Charger and it didn't fit at all well also it doesn't have the vents at the rear. So the 72 hood came in for some cutting. The power bulge was cut out and a piece plasticard made to in fill . A piece of brass rod was used for the center peak. then lots of sanding began. There is still one or two pin holes to fill then its off to Jonny fro paint. The DofH pop up head lights have been cut and shaped to fit the original 71 Charger grill. As I found that the missing link bumper is to wide for the body by 2mm. I have a ModelHaus bumper and this is from a promo which is also to wide. This forced me to cut out the lights/grill from the 71 bumper. I also have to still make or rob the nudge bars from the DofH The rear bumper from Missing link fits like it was meant to be there . There is just a little sanding to do to get the light surround straight as it bows the top of the bumper up. I'm tempted to drill the rear lights and fit in some reverse lights with small pieces of clear I did promise some pics of the interior and I will once I can get pics taken Thanks for looking in and as always comments good or bad welcome. I'm a big boy I can take it
72 Charger Posted November 5, 2016 Author Posted November 5, 2016 Well after a long break I finally have the interior mostly done . Only a few fine details left to do. I have also redone the vinyl roof . Let me know what you think Good or bad
gtx6970 Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Not to be harsh,,,but is there that much of a difference in the color of the seats compared to the door panels? On the 1/1 they should be nearly a dead on match
72 Charger Posted November 7, 2016 Author Posted November 7, 2016 Not to be harsh,,,but is there that much of a difference in the color of the seats compared to the door panels? On the 1/1 they should be nearly a dead on matchHi bill yes now seeing it in the pictures the door panels are a bit bright . But in the 1/1 they are actually a different green. I believe that the 1/1 seat may have been recovered at some point in its life
High octane Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Thanks Oscar I'm not sure on Future it is quite thin stuff . I may just use clear enamel its quite thickI use 5-Minute Epoxy to glue on my photo etched parts as it dries clear.
72 Charger Posted November 7, 2016 Author Posted November 7, 2016 Thanks Nick I have just done them with Super glue tonight. Pics to follow soon
72 Charger Posted December 24, 2016 Author Posted December 24, 2016 Well after 3 goes at the hood I think I'm getting there with it. I had originally used a brass rod to do the peak in the hood but I had problems with it so it was stripped back and after seeing a tip on here about drilling a hole at the top and bottom . Then stitching plastic rod through gluing down first with a drop of super glue Then just put a bit of tension on the other end and then fill and sand. I have just got to fill the pin holes then it will be going back to my painter friend John . I have now started adding back detail on the inside of the hood . I only have to do the top and bottom ribs as the 1/1 has insolation so this will cover the rest. I plan to use a rare earth magnet to hold up the hood . So I will have to plan where to put it behind the bulkhead Comments welcomed
Dodge Driver Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 Dave, you're doing great work here. I'm going to follow along. I have an MPC '72 Rallye Charger promo I'm hoping to convert someday. Not looking forward to doing the interior panels as you are doing.
72 Charger Posted December 25, 2016 Author Posted December 25, 2016 Thanks Frank I still have some work to do on the interior . Once I get the hood finished and painted I can get it all put together . I'm also going to make new glass all around
Dodge Driver Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Thanks Frank I still have some work to do on the interior . Once I get the hood finished and painted I can get it all put together . I'm also going to make new glass all around Dave, I'm learning a great deal here. Thanks for the descriptions and pics. I'm SLOWLY developing the abilities I need to build my '72 replica. I have to add a full vinyl top with a coarse grain to mine.
72 Charger Posted December 26, 2016 Author Posted December 26, 2016 Thanks Frank The vinyl roof was a pain in the butt . It took 3 attempt's to get mine looking close enough . The 1/1 car has Gator grain pattern . But I wasn't going to try and copy that
426-Hemi Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 (edited) Good lord Dave....... That body paint is something man! NIICE JOB! -A LOT of work I'm sure too specially the vinyl top! (I've got one of those planned myself!) -on another model adding a vinyl top where the kit doesn't have one....The work ya got going looks great! Edited January 24, 2017 by 426-Hemi typing
72 Charger Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 Thanks John but I still wont take credit for the paint as my good friend did I for me as it was base and clear . I have never used it before . My friend John scanned the 1/1 with a Spectroanaliser ( not sure how to spell that one ) With a laser ! Then mixed it for me then sprayed it in a booth . It is blemish free and looks like glass . As for the vinyl top that is my work it took 3 attempts to get the right look . In the end I used a sticky back vinyl I found in a craft store then painted it a with a mix of dark military green and some satin clear. Its close to the Gator Grain but I could not get the look exact
