slusher Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 What goes around comes around, eh Carl?GI really believe it G, they left because no one supported them or the Raiders. Jacksonville received the expansion team instead of LA because of the market there. I really think they did St Louis wrong..
Agent G Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I haven't been keeping up on the St Louis issue as much as I could have, but what I heard infuriated me. Hizzoner and the "Bored of Alderclowns" concocted three schemes whereby a stadium would be funded. All three essentially gutted the city's budget to a point that all city workers would qualify for food stamps. None of their salaries would suffer, just the "common folk". I am aware of the revenue generated by a viable NFL franchise in a city as sports minded as St Louis, but dammmmm why should services suffer? True to big city politics, an alderclown went to the media with allegations of kickbacks and favors throughout the process. I have no proof but, I suppose she wasn't "hooked up" as well as she felt entitled to be. After a week of media fooferall plan 4 was presented. It was an amalgam of the three previous plans and actually doable in that the services (police, fire, ems) wouldn't suffer. Some civic minded corporate entities added to the pot. Again no proof however; can you say Goodfellas? Sure you can. At this point any contribution was appreciated, business, industry, outfit, alien, whatever. Several sites were offered as a potential building place. Stan Kroenke said "buh bye" and left with his team. Truly the "Silence of the Lambs". Good riddence. G
Mark Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I am aware of the revenue generated by a viable NFL franchise in a city as sports minded as St Louis, but dammmmm why should services suffer? I've never bought into the idea of pro sports teams "generating revenue". St. Louis won't have an NFL team next season. What will happen to the money that people there won't be spending next year at the games? Will they burn it, bury it in their backyards, flush it down their toilets? Nope, they'll spend it somewhere else locally. Whatever money was spent in St. Louis by outsiders attending games there, was in all likelihood offset by locals going out of town to attend away games in other weeks. To the contrary, and it's my personal opinion and not backed up by any research...I don't think pro sports teams (football in particular) even carry their own water in terms of stadium cost versus money "brought in". The taxpayers build the thing, pay to maintain it, and maybe get a token payment in return. These teams remain hot commodities only because there are two or three fewer teams than there are cities that want a team, and that keeps the pressure on for the next city to come up with a bigger handout package than the last one.

The last thing i picked up was during a Thursday night game was if they came up with so much funding and a site the Rams could not leave. So they did anyway but i had no idea of the politics. There are teams playing in older Stadiums. What's wrong with the Rams Stadium? I would guess the Rams owner got a payday like Modell was suspected of when he moved his team and left a full attendance supported team. My wife is from Missouri and is a die hard Cardinal Fan and she was a Ram fan but not now.. Edited January 28, 2016 by slusher
Darren B Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 John Lennon was right. I just watched the Broncos beat the Patriots. Broncos will go to the Super Bowl, and the Patriots will go home. Nice to see that cheaters wind up losers. Go Peyton Manning! Go Broncos! I agree with you but now they are trying to say Peyton is doping, it never ends....
Harry P. Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 I agree with you but now they are trying to say Peyton is doping, it never ends.... Yep, I heard about that. Just my personal opinion, but I really doubt that Peyton Manning is on the juice. He seems to be too much of a straight-arrow, upstanding guy. Plus his dad Archie would kill him!
Harry Joy Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 I lived in Alton, right across from St. Louis, when the Rams moved there. All I can say is.... to my former in-laws - pbthhhh, I told you this was going to happen.

I really agree Harry, he always seemed to be a honest guy and it would kill his market ability on commercials also life after football. He is to smart for that. Look what it did to the other guys who got caught...
Danno Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 The most potent juice Peyton Manning is on is Papa John's pepperoni.
