Mr. Metallic Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 (edited) I recently received this kit over the weekend as a gift from a friend. It is complete, but the decals are a little rough, so I'm ordering replacements from Scale Auto details. I'll also be using the big M+H slicks from the recent AMT parts pack, and the wire wheels set from Replicas and Miniatures of Md.My question is the paint scheme. Looks like there's an orange fogged edge that runs around most of the body. Any thoughts on the best way to simulate that. I'm not really experience with airbrushing, but if nobody has any other thoughts I just may have to try it. It's only plastic after all. Also, does anyone sell a cogged belt material for supercharger belts? Edited January 26, 2016 by Mr. Metallic
Dragline Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I've never seen accurate cogged belt material in 1/25 scale. The stuff that comes in pulley kits is out of scale. Make your own.
Daddyfink Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I just use masking tape and paint it black with a marker. And the kit is actually for the first Galloping Ghost, as the second one is a much longer wheelbase. Just FYI
DavidChampagne Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 (edited) Have you looked at zip ties for your belt? May take a bit of shaving though. As far as the the shading - you could try doing the orange first, then the liter color. Maybe have minimal paint coming out and build it up slow. Just a thought, I sure ain't no expert. Can't wait to see this one. good luck. here is my undertaker Edited January 27, 2016 by DavidChampagne
Mr. Metallic Posted March 7, 2016 Author Posted March 7, 2016 This isn't hitting my bench full force quite yet, but I am doing some preliminary work on the body getting ready for paint. I got a set of repro decals from billygooche, the pad printed M+H slicks from AMT, and I'm working on procuring a set of pulleys. I am able to slide the frame into the body through the engine opening, so now I can mold the entire back half of the body together. The top half of the front will remain separate, but I added some strips of plastic the inside to help hold it in place.
Muncie Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) "Roll tape" is a masking trick that helps control a fogged or blended line - stick the tape to the body above the orange area with the edge lifted where you want the fogged line. Spray from a direction that allows the paint to get under the raised edge but not up to where the tape is stuck. Experiment on something similar and the results will guide you to techniques to get the fade you want by varying how much the edge is raised, angle the paint is sprayed... it's an old techniqueSpeed City Resin has a cogged blower belt. Dragline Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 (edited) That "Roll Tape" thing. I may have seen it early in life but I swear I invented it for my Oreo Cookie Dale Jr build. Now, no man's an island and I'm sure it was not new but it occurred to me is all I'm sayin. And Speed City's belt is out of scale. Go with tape like we do. Edited March 8, 2016 by Dragline
Daddyfink Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Why not just glue the body halves together and cut off the cowl? That is how I did my Ramchargers and More American Graffiti cars. Then you can do the chassis in one piece with out messing with the roll bar hoop or trying to get rid of the body seam after you assemble it around the chassis.

Not necessary with this one. There is no roll bar hoop over the driver, the seat fills up the entire opening to the rear bodywork. I'm sure the real car has a hoop, but it's not visible on the completed model. So, I can slide the frame in through the front, and slip the seat in through the cockpit opening and I should be good to go. Worked on molding the two halves of the body together last night. Should be ready for paint soon if all goes well. BTW, Steve, thanks for the "roll tape" idea.
RatRod Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I painted, and decaled this one for a friend a few years ago. Good luck on yours Craig!!!
