peekay Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Has anybody got one of these yet? I'm wondering if it's plastic or diecast, does the hood open etc. Can anybody do a review with pics?https://www.tamiyausa.com/items/plastic-model-series-20/masterwork-collection-series-6500/mercedes-benz-300-sl-(white)-21152
peekay Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 BTW Apparently 1.24th and available in silver too.
mike 51 Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 (edited) If you loook at your link..it says plastic. Its a factory assembled and painted 1/24th scale model. You can also buy them unpainted and unassembled. It's a very nice kit..the best ever of this subject. Edited February 1, 2016 by mike 51
Matt Bacon Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 The factory-assembled LaFerrari runs $300. I guess you can buy the kit for about $60? So, there's $240 of paint, decals (the carbon, no doubt) and labour. Even assuming that Tamiya gets the decals and paint for free as the manufacturer, that's what? 30 hours of work at minimum wage. I reckon it would probably take me 40-50 hours to build one. So they must have some very skilled, fast, and extremely cheap assembly line workers in their "factory"...bestest,M.
mike 51 Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 30 hours to build? I doubt that's the case..I could assemble mine without paint in about 2+ hours....adding paint would add another couple of hours. These are pretty simple kits but quality examples could be built fairly quickly assembly line style with skilled builders that knew how to build them... they live and work in the 21st century too, you know.

LOL WHAT? the La Ferrari has 169 parts with a full C/F decal sheet and a full P/E set to go with it, the SL 300 has around 140 parts and a P/E set if you choose, thats not really close to the word simple. Sure, you might be able to build one of those in a few hours, but its gonna look exactly like it was built in a couple of hours Edited February 2, 2016 by martinfan5
mike 51 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) I was thinking "bout the Merc...comparing it to a 'Mint model for example. The Merc is pretty simple to build (is what I should have said) it goes together quickly and easily and would not take an experienced commercial modeler more than a few hours to build a nice one, especially with practice. So I kinda doubt the workers are being exploited. I've no experience with the La Ferrari. Edited February 2, 2016 by mike 51

Chuck Kourouklis Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Oh yeah. Decaling that LaFerrari is all c.f. Then there's the carbon fiber…
peekay Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 My first thought was also that this was simply the kit assembled. But the complexity of the kit and the fact that it's being offered for as low as $124 made me wonder. Also, opening doors are mentioned in the link but not an engine or opening hood; would they not mention that in an advertisement?I'd still like to hear from someone who actually has one - but I've now noticed that delivery won't be before Feb 18.
