Harry P. Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I love searching youtube for cover versions of famous songs by big name artists done by people nobody has ever heard of. There is an amazing amount of talented people posting videos of themselves doing their versions of well-known songs that are in many cases as good as, or even better, than the version we all know. I'm not talking about professional cover bands or "tribute bands" that actually tour and make money doing covers... I'm talking about regular "non-professional" people who just happen to be talented and post on youtube. Perfect example. The Beatles' "Yes It Is" done by a complete "nobody"...
Harry P. Posted February 18, 2016 Author Posted February 18, 2016 Another example. I have no idea who these people are, but their harmonies are fantastic...
Harry P. Posted February 18, 2016 Author Posted February 18, 2016 Another great example. These guys, whoever they are, could give Boston a run for their money any time. The lead singer hits all the high notes that the late Brad Delp did... and that is no easy task!
Harry P. Posted February 18, 2016 Author Posted February 18, 2016 Another "nobody" who nails it... "More Than a Feeling"... a very hard song to sing for any vocalist. You really need some big time range to do this one justice, and this guy has what it takes...
chunkypeanutbutter Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) Quite under-the-radar in the USA, but with a small following in Australia, Jay Wilson of Tame Impala does solo electronic music under the name 'Gum.'https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lVeNfjoI2eM Edited February 18, 2016 by chunkypeanutbutter
RAT-T Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) JUST SAW THAT ON YOU TUBE A FEW DAYS AGO AWESOME Edited February 18, 2016 by RAT-T
PowerPlant Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Cool, but both of the above are well established recording artists, not exactly nobodies
Snake45 Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 The original of this was a great song. This version is even better. Jump ahead to about 1:25 to save some time.
Snake45 Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 Don't think I've ever heard ANY male cover ANY Adele song better that this, which is simply awesome:
JollySipper Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 I'm surprised that Tool lets anyone do covers of their music..... You can't even download MP3s of their stuff, or listen to it on internet music sites. If you want to hear their music, you have to buy the album...........
Harry Joy Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 I was friends with this band back in the 90s. They did not do many covers, but I talked them into slipping this into their live act, and they included it as a bonus song on their second CD. Crowds loved it.https://mp3-music-download.com/music/Judge+Nothing/No+Matter+What
Harry P. Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 I'm surprised that Tool lets anyone do covers of their music.....You can't stop people from covering your songs. Especially if it's just for fun (not sold for profit).
Harry P. Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 Wow! Another spot on cover of "More than a feeling." These no-name bands are amazing...
Harry P. Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 Ok, this takes the cake. "More than a feeling" cover with not a lead guitar... but a lead violin!
Harry P. Posted February 19, 2016 Author Posted February 19, 2016 Here's one I encountered recently I think you're missing the point. It's not about other recording artists doing covers, it's about amateurs... just "regular people" doing covers...
RAT-T Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Ok, this takes the cake. "More than a feeling" cover with not a lead guitar... but a lead violin! SOUNDS GREAT FOR A VIOLIN, & THE BEST VOCALS YET
Harry P. Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 Holy krapp. Is this even better than the original? Ok, these guys are obviously not just "regular people," but a professional Zep cover bad. But still...
Kit Basher Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 That guitarist is no Jimmy Page, but she's a heck of a lot better looking!
Harry P. Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 That guitarist is no Jimmy Page, but she's a heck of a lot better looking! Oh yeah!
Crazy Ed Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Holy krapp. Is this even better than the original? Ok, these guys are obviously not just "regular people," but a professional Zep cover bad. But still.. Jimmy n the Boys just Covered the Song themselves. But there's no argueing the New Group looks better than Zep!
Harry P. Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 Yes, technically you're right... Zep's version was a cover of a song written in the 1920s!
