Monty Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Bear with me here - I know the majority of you have probably built Revell's '69 Charger at least once, but I haven't, so I'd like to know what fitment / accuracy issues I'll encounter. I've heard that the rear axle needs to be moved slightly to be centered in the wheel well, and according to some of the WIPs I've seen, a number of them made comments about having to do extra work around the front fender/grill area, as gaps may appear unless certain steps are taken. What other things should I be aware of if my goal is to end up with a good-looking, accurate build?
MoparWoman Jamie Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 I have 6 1969 Revells one's my work bench. They have incorrect issues with them all over. BUT they are a nice kit to build though. You will need to tuck the front wheels in more in the front area of the car as the rear sets correct but the fronts doesn't though.

Regarding the front wheels, are you talking about a camber issue or is the front wheel track too wide, a la some of AMT's '68-'72 Corvettes? Also, if you have time, could you elaborate on some of the most egregious inaccuracies I should watch out for?
MrObsessive Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 (edited) I don't know if you've bought the kit yet, but early releases of the kit had an incorrectly shaped roof (way too low) and Revell sent out replacement bodies to those that wanted them. However, there may still be kits out there that have never been started (or sealed) out there on the 'Bay or at a show, and IIRC, Revell didn't state on the box that the newer releases had the corrected body. I built a '69 Daytona years ago (based on the Charger) and yes, the rear wheels seem to be not quite centered in the wheelwells as well as they could be. I did a working suspension on mine, and the problem lies on how they located the leaf springs. You'll have to do some slight tweaking here and there to get it to sit right. As can be the usual problem with Revell kits, they can also tend to sit too high when built unless you do something with the ride height before it's all said and done. Once again, you'll have to play around with what works for you in correcting this. Taking your time and being patient will turn out a very nice model as Revell did get the overall shape of the body right (after they corrected the roof). Edited February 28, 2016 by MrObsessive
gtx6970 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) I built a 1968 kit maybe 2 years ago . And I don't remember any glaring fit issues . But I do remember the chassis and engine bay fit is tight. I think I glued the firewall to the chassis / interior and getting it all in if I remember right is a battle .I gave the completed build to the the owner of the 1/1 it replicated ( I am restoring the actual car now,,,with a completion date late this spring ) PS, IMO, my one real complaint with the revell kit is the door scallops are no where near accurate compared to the 1/1 . If I do another one for myself I will use an original MPC body with the revell kit as a doner Edited February 29, 2016 by gtx6970
