Lizard Racing Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Is it just me, or did anyone else building the AMT '66 Nova have trouble fitting the drag slicks under the rear fender openings?
AC Norton Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Is it just me, or did anyone else building the AMT '66 Nova have trouble fitting the drag slicks under the rear fender openings? ....well, George, funny you ask. just Sunday I was at a local model meet in my area here, and joined in a conversation with some modelers that mentioned the same as you, not to say that getting the hood to fit on correctly was a problem too. I have never built any version of that 66 Nova, but I do recall hearing fit problems and complaints over the years about both stock and pro strret versions . the body has a small rear wheel opening,,,so you may resolve this by taking your Dremel, at low speed, and carefully thinning out the underside edges of plastic thickness, and also you may see if the wheel backs/ brake drums on the rear can be brought inboard a touch by sanding or modifying slightly until you get a desired fit.....sorry to hear this, but you are not alone about issues with this kit apparently...the Ace......
Mike Chernecki Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Have you tried to fit a larger tire on real Chevy II, not much room back there for a bigger tire like the slick.
Snake45 Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Have you tried to fit a larger tire on real Chevy II, not much room back there for a bigger tire like the slick. Exactly so, and remember that Stock class was limited to 7" tread width in those days. 7" scale slicks are fairly uncommon and I suspect that the kit tires are too wide.
Mark Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 The slicks included are the early MPC hollow funny car units, probably too wide for Stock class (but way small for a funny car). But they are the the narrowest slicks Round 2 has, other than maybe the "piecrusts" which aren't the type that was used on the 1:1 car. They're a tight fit, just like they would have been on the real one in those days.
