Earl Marischal Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 The Model Railway group of which I am part, are building a new layout. It is set around the year 2000 and requires a number of company vans, mostly Fort Transits and Connects. There are diecasts available of these and in the correct livery, however, out of the box they all look the same. Therefore, one of our number has been detailing and weathering them, adding roof vents, ladders, interior detail etc. These are 1/76scale, UK 4mm to the foot standard model railway scale. I thought folks here might like a look as they are something a bit different. There will be more in due course. Thanks for looking steve
Tom Geiger Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Those are cool! Nice weathering and work on detailing them out. I've always liked the Transit Connect since it hit the USA a bunch of years ago. As everyone has been concerned that we'd be getting cars from China, nobody noticed when Ford snuck these in from Turkey. I liked the first version we got, not so hot on the new design.
redneckrigger Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 (edited) Very nice detailing on the vans as well as the layout, from what we can see. I have always wanted to do a railroad layout but lacked both the space and the eyesight! The Transit looks pretty nice, but I have never been in one. We used to run a Mercedes Sprinter van as an ambulance in the service where I was a paramedic. It was the heavy duty one with dual rear wheels. That thing rode like a tank, and the sliding rear door had a mind of it's own, literally falling off the thing one time during a cardiac arrest we were working. Add to that the fact that the Ford based ambulances almost 99.9% of the services around me used at the time were VERY different in the controls......(hit the wipers and the cruise control flips on, etc.,), and suffice it to say it was a HAPPY day when the Clown Car went down the road in favor of a new Ford E Series rig. But, the Transit looks nice from what I have seen, imagine it will only be a matter of time before THEY arrive on the EMS scene.Keep photos of that layout coming. Love it!
