om617 Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 (edited) Hello. Got this kit today sealed and in perfect condition, however i cant see there is any decal sheet in it. Is there supposed to be a decal sheet or did these not come with any? Also where could i find aftermarket 66 Cutlass 442 decals? Thanks. Tommy Edited March 19, 2016 by om617
MrObsessive Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 (edited) Your question got my curiosity up, and I had to go up to my third floor and look for this one in my stash of kits! No, the only decals I see are six license plates (three sets for front and rear) and that's it. No gauge decals, stripes or anything else. I'm not sure who would have decals for that..........I'm not sure Fred Cady offered them years ago for this car. Edited March 19, 2016 by MrObsessive
om617 Posted March 19, 2016 Author Posted March 19, 2016 Thank you Bill. I`m suprised how nice this kit is,also has a nice uptop i`m going to test on older annuals. The engineering on this kit is very similar to the 67 Impala SS. The only thing i could putmy finger on is of coarse the decals and a little warp on the frame, but its so nice i dont care since it`s gone when glued to the chassis pan. I will check with Bestmodelparts on Ebay if he maby has the gauge set. The 442 decalsi`m not sure what to do with.
MrObsessive Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Yes it is a nice kit! I've had mine ever since they were intro'd but haven't done anything with it. I have that eBay seller listed as one of my favorites, and I was checking his listings out. Unfortunately, while he doesn't have gauge decals for the '66 per se, he does have this posted which should work as they're round faced gauges. Might be worth a shot to look into 'em!
om617 Posted March 19, 2016 Author Posted March 19, 2016 I went ahead and purchased the 69 gauges and will see how it goes. I wonder if i could use BMF on the 442 scripts on the body and then maby try some clear red over. The originals goes over 3 diffrent colorsred, light red,and yellow/orange,so i`m not sure how to pull that off.
Belugawrx Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 BMF and tamiya clear red, clear yellow, clear orange, comes out ok...Built that a couple of years ago,...great model
om617 Posted March 20, 2016 Author Posted March 20, 2016 Thanks Bruce,i think it`s the only way to go with the emblems. Agree, should been a 65 Starfire, but cant get anything.
Can-Con Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 The Lindberg '67 442 has decals in it like what you're looking for.BTW, the emblems on the real cars were painted with more of a semi gloss paint, almost flat and definitly not transparent. I'd think a thinned solid paint in the appropriate colors would look better.

I wont buy a kit just for it`s decals, shipping over here is quite crazy these days. I dont think it should be to difficult try replicate them.
om617 Posted March 21, 2016 Author Posted March 21, 2016 (edited) I notice the convertible has a single carb (i think it`s a quadrajet), power steering and AC. The hardtop has the three carb set-up with cold air intakes,w30 option i assume. It does not have AC. This kit also does not come with fuel pump, does not show in the instructions either. Both models also lack power brakes. Or lack, depends on how you see it. The hardtop has a nice power steering bracket, this lack on the convertible, wich has a nice AC bracket. I wish they included the PS bracket on both. Well there some useless info for you. Edited March 21, 2016 by om617
Ron Hamilton Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 (edited) When I built my convertible, I just foiled over the 442 Emblems after paint, and painted the details. The pitfalls I noticed with this kit is that the bucket seats are not shaped correctly for the "strato" bucket seats used by GM during this era. I had a spare pair of "strato" buckets from another AMT kit, so I carefully cut the upholstery from the center of the seat, and mated it to the seat backs. In the case of the hardtop, I do not like the way that AMT handled the side window profile, as it is too rounded at the side windows. The Revell '66 GTO has a correct roof, so I am going to use it as a guide to re-do the side window profile. This is a great kit, as it has a great chassis, an up-top that actually fits, and a well detailed back seat area. I bought a few extra when it was easily available, as I want to use it as a basis for a ;66 GTO, and a '66 SS396 convertible. I may use the "bones" of this kit to build an accurate '66 Skylark GS Hardtop from a built-up that I am restoring. Edited May 20, 2016 by Ron Hamilton
