American 185 Heavy Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Glad to be a member here, and have been building cars for about 45 years off and on, more off than on. I am mostly interested in factory stock, particularly the big Fords of the late 60's, 70's and the early 80's. Love the larger Mercury's of the same years, and of course the Lincolns. Anything Thunderbird, Torino/Gran Torino or LTD, LTD Crown Victoria or Country Squire and likewise in the Mercury line is me. Have zero interest in Mustangs, Camaros or Firebirds, they are overdone and nothing exciting. Pickups or Suv's do nothing for me either. Just happen to have an affinity for larger cars, and love the older Chrysler line, as well Love the big Chryslers and the Imperials as well. In the GM line, the only cars that do it for me are Oldsmobile. Wish there were more Oldsmobile kits available, but sadly there are not. And Plymouth has some great models as well. Just none of the late 60's 70's Fury or Gran Fury. Loving sharing ideas and tips, my skill level is intermediate. Most recent builds were the Starsky Hutch Gran Torino, now a daily driver Gran Torino in blue like my moms was !! Complete with whitewalls and luxury Wheel covers. Want to do another, but this time a Brougham with the vinyl roof and opera windows so popular on the Gran Torino Brougham. And am completing the Moebius 65 Satellite in Ruby red, like my dads was back in 65. Not a bad kit at all, other than poor fitting windshield, smaller than the opening, and horrific exterior decals. Poor adhesion and disintegrate after clear coating. Ended up hand painting emblems etc. Such is life !!!
disabled modeler Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Welcome Bruce....we have a lot in common. I build mostly factory stock and same era big cars...been on a quest to build family owned replicas myself.
Timok1 Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Welcome to the obsession, Bruce. I also grew up with the big Poncho's , Olds and Merck's. Add in a Buick or 2. Dad bought what ever was cheaper and reliable. 4 doors of course, to haul family, feed and the occasional baby calf. Dairy farmer in NE Iowa. Later Timok1
Tom Geiger Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Hello Bruce! Everytime I think I know everyone, another long term local builder comes out! You need to come visit us, we are the Tri-State Scale Model Car Club and we meet in Perth Amboy, NJ on the second Saturday of each month at 1pm. It's a fun little group of guys in our age group and a lot of replica stock building going on. Check out our schedule at www.tssmcc.org. We also hold a little show every year, actually for the last 30 years! NNL East is April 16th this year in Wayne, NJ. It's an intimate event where we invite 1200 of our closest friends for a day of model cars and the best the aftermarket has to offer. Check it out at www.nnleast.com
American 185 Heavy Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 Hello all and thanks for the welcome !!! Tom especially, nice to meet someone in my area for a change !!! I would love to attend a meeting of the club at some point but will never enter a show !! My builds are intermediate, and far from show stoppers as I have seen over the last two years. The models I build are by other forums considered 'boring' as they are daily drivers, but they are the ones I love. I never could understand why the model car companies spend god knows how much on Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds and the like, seems there are two to three releases of them each year. At least where the Mustang was concerned it never sold in the volume for Ford that the Taurus, Grand Marquis, or Lincoln Town Car did. So why won't a kit company take that in to account, and give us one decent Grand Marquis model or of the Lincoln Town Car ?? One can only wish. But will likely never ever happen. Anyway, will look for you on here and hopefully stay in touch !!!
