This may be an old topic, but I didn't find it in the search, so I will ask. I have two of the Revell Datsun 510s and one of the old 29 Model A truck that have the two piece vinyl tires. Has anyone got a method for permanently joining the two halves of these? I have tried all of the regular adhesives and they work, but not well. I am thinking of filing them with resin or epoxy.

I have searched for an answer to your question, the best I could come up with is using CA glue or

this .WELD-ON ® 4784 Vinyl Cement.

I've no experience using the weld-on, but something tells me that perhaps the CA might be a little to

brittle for this kind of application.

Hopefully someone here will chime in with a more definitive answer. I'm interested in how others deal

w/these two piece tires.

Shoe Goo - not sure where I heard about it, but it works - very strong adhesive when dry - I just hold the tires together and start with a little inside the tire in a couple of places and add more over the next several days - give it some time to cure and good to go - any that gets on the outside of the tread can be sanded off pretty easily - might give it a try on a couple of tires that you don't care about to experiment a bit.  3M Plastic Emblem and Trim is also a good adhesive

You made me curious, so I tried some stuff I have around called Vyna Bond. It worked fine. Excess glue wiped right off, with no damage to the tire. It's supposed to cure for two hours. I waited one hour, I can't get it apart. Amazon has it, and probably other places as well. It's generally used to repair rafts and waterproof bags. I've mostly used it to glue vinyl tie down rings to vinyl canoes. Once it cures, you can pick up the canoe by the tie down ring.

Update: 10 hours later: I tried much harder to pull the tire apart this morning. I did it, but it wasn't easy. The glue did not "melt and weld" the tire like it does river gear. Still, it was a pretty strong and flexible bond. No way to know how it would do long term.

So that's the result of my experiment, hope it helps some.

I appreciate your help. I've always wondered about what glue or adhesive to use on those 2 part tires. Again, Thank you.     Jeff
