1hobby1 Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 Hey all,Just sprayed my newest kit, I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome I received. I used the small testors enamel bottle thinned 1:1 with lacquer thinner and I must say I am impressed with the outcome. Not sure I will even need a clear coat since the gloss finish came out so well. One issue is I have a couple small runs towards the bottom of the bumpers. how do most of you deal with paint runs? Will polishing pads do the trick even though I have no clear coat?thanks!
Mike Chernecki Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 If this is a solid color polishing should be fine. Beware that the run may still be soft and wet in the thickest part of the run. Allow extra time to fully cure. I had a similar issue with some 2k clear. Once fully cured I used a razor blade to shave the run level with the surface then polished out. Not sure if this would work in your situation.
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 I would say sanding & polishing would most likely work, but be aware that enamel, especially Testors enamels, take a loooooooong time to cure fully.I'm talking about weeks, or possibly even months!Sanding & polishing an un-cured paint job will pretty much guarantee you a big mess! Now, taking into consideration that you thinned it with lacquer thinner will probably shorten the cure time considerably, but I have no experience in that department. You'll have to figure out for yourself whether it's cured or not. redneckrigger Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 I have used the razor trick many times on 1:1 paint jobs. There even is a special tool to do this that uses single edged razors. It DOES work well as stated above with clears, and also works well with solid colors. Get the bulk of the run out, then use a block backed fine paper, wet, to remove the rest, then buff to original shine to match the surrounding area. BUT, DO make sure it is DRY DRY DRY.
