It's hard to tell, but it looks to me like a larger scale car engine similar to a Model A.

I thought it looks like the engine in the old Mack kit. Wasn't that a Buda?

You are exactly right that is the Monogram Mack engine.

I have one of those coffee table books on Mack Trucks. While the information in it is limited in this book, it states that the AC engines were originally built in the Saurer plant in Plainfield, New Jersey. So I'm assuming that these were Mack engines.
