cobraman Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 (edited) Building this little kit for my BIL. Edited June 1, 2016 by cobraman updated and done
Snake45 Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 I built that kit a few years back. The only snag I had with it was getting the (fold optional) wings aligned. If you don't get the dihedral perfect on a Corsair, it just looks awful. But I did get it right and mine looks good. I don't recall any other problems with an otherwise fun and rewarding build.
Harry P. Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Hey Ray... I recently found this guy's youtube channel ("PLASMO").. He does fantastic work on 1/72 and 1/48 scale planes. You might want to check it out and get a few tips. He's really good.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-Mdr1mgVuU
cobraman Posted May 31, 2016 Author Posted May 31, 2016 Thank you Harry. Here I go again with a small kit. My BIN bought this and a Hellcat the same scale and asked if you would build them for him. He's a good guy so I said yes. He also mentioned something about wanting some helicopter he would like me to build. He's in no rush so I guess I will be doing that also at some point.
cobraman Posted June 1, 2016 Author Posted June 1, 2016 Finished this one up today. Pretty simple kit with no added detail. BIL asked to make it in flight. I tried to simulate a spinning prop which was an epic fail but the best I knew how to do. Stuck it on a rod over some plastic looking water.
Harry P. Posted June 1, 2016 Posted June 1, 2016 Ray... a good way to simulate a spinning prop is to cut out a disk of clear acetate or sheet styrene.
cobraman Posted June 1, 2016 Author Posted June 1, 2016 Thats kind of what I did but should have stopped there and not added the prop detail.
Jim B Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Nice looking Corsair. You could always use this next time (assuming there is a next time): http://www.propblur.com/
Snake45 Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Propeller "blurred blades" is a photographic effect not seen in real life. Whenever I see a painting or model depicting "blurred blades," my first thought is that the artist has never been around any actual running airplanes.
Snake45 Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Ray... a good way to simulate a spinning prop is to cut out a disk of clear acetate or sheet styrene. And then stick it in a Dremel and hit it lightly on both sides with fine steel wool, just to knock the shine off it.
