greetings,  boils and ghouls. its time for my next adventure. this one features my FIRST custom build. ive always loved the creepy and the unwelcome, so here we go again! im building a 1960 hearse!

i started it all off with the AMT Ghostbusters ECTO1 model.

and decided to make a hearse! some have told me it was a hearse, and though they did pull double duty and use it to carry caskets, it isnt a hearse as I see them.

i pulled the model body out and got to work. now, the glass on this kit is one huge wrap around piece, the front windows are up. so i scribed the rear quarter glasses and broke them free. i then added a non shrink BONDO filler to the windows to fill it in smooth. i also sanded down and filled in gaps on the roof and one side panel. i left the fron light bar mount because i am going to paint it to have the traditional purple hearse lighting. heres where im at so far.

as you can see i have some more filling and sanding to do, but you get the idea so far.

heres what im hoping to replicate.

what do you guys think so far? remember, its my first custom.

The black paint looks slick and shiny. How do you plan to convert the fins over to a '60?

i hadnt thought of the fins, it may have to stay a 59.

ok guys and gals, got a little bit more done. got the body painted a little more, got the windows in, and some curtains added. i wasnt sure how i felt about the light bar, but i figure why not? its painted to have purple lighting, like an actual funeral car would have. im not happy with it, and i will do another one when my skills improve. its too sloppy for my OCD needs.

now the rear area has equipment and jump seats molded into the floor and i dont have enough .030 plastic to make a suitable bed, so i did something a little different. i had a tonneau cover from a 30s ford pickup kit, so i used that and some other parts to make a partial hatch cover. im going to find some 1/24 scale flowers and hopefully a 1/24 flower wreath to put on and behind the cover.

now, the paint isnt done in the interior, it needs a couple colors and coats, but it gives the idea. the shiney spots on the roof and cover are just wet, not missed.

its not too bad, so far its close-ish-kinda.

im thinking of doing my first lowering with this one too. seems how its just pin axles i should just be able to drill new holes.

This is the best thing you can do with the Ecto kit i think . I turned one into a hearse about 10 years ago, and they look real sweet.

Your's is a bit different to what i did, and looks great with the rear quarter windows filled in.

little update kiddies!

not done yet, ive got to tuck and glue some corners, retouch the vinyl top, taillights, i may add a search light and at least a drivers mirror.

customizations include making it into a hearse, custom tail pipes, 4" scale suspension drop. its been a struggle so far, but i can see the way its going to look and im glad i did what i did. the purple light is brighter for whatever reason in the pictures, its more of the dark funeral car purple in person.
