GaryR Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Sitting here watching the Munsters (retirement is great), wondering about the ten Stromberg manifold in the kit. Ten carbs for a 289 is a bit much!I'm wondering about the manifold itself. Detail and accuracy in AMT kits was hit or miss (just like now), is the manifold/engine at all accurate? Could it be converted to a fuel injection manifold? There are no fuel injected small block Fords in any kit that I know of ( weird huh?), so I'd like opinions before I buy the kit! My buying days are pretty much over, kits cost too much and I do have 650 kits to fall back on!I'd like to build Gary Coe's Gunfighter 57 Ford, a car i saw race plenty of times in the 60's. It was powered by a Hillborn injected 289.ALSO, anybody bought the SpeedCity's resin four Ford dragster? How are the heads/ manifolds in that kit?THANKS! Hillborn Ford FI
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 (edited) The manifold on the real Munster Coach was partly fake, just for looks. Barris, you know? If you can score a Weber downdraft manifold for a 289, you're halfway there to do mechanical Hilborn-style FI. I believe I've seen an injected little Ford in somebody's Cobra build on here recently, too. EDIT: You know, I have the Munster kit around here somewhere. Let me look at that manifold and get back to you. Edited June 11, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 OK...here's the bad news. The engine in the Munster Coach is SIGNIFICANTLY underscale. It's a freakin joke, really. Worse than the tiny little joke smallblock Ford in the Revell Lil' John-26 Ford-derived kits.
unclescott58 Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Accuracy and the Munster Coach model? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Your kidding right!?I love AMT's old Munster Coach model kit. It's a fun kit. But, it was designed as an easy build for kids. Accuracy was not a big consideration in its design. Does it look like the Munster's Coach when it's done? Yes. But........ Fun and nice? Yes! Looks pretty close to satisfy most kids back in the mid 60's. Adults expecting today's level of model accuracy? Not even close.Grandpa's Dragster is the same way. Buy the tin with both kits if you can afford it. And have some fun!
