Steve,

This is a project that I would love to see done, as I started building models in 1962, and have quite a few 1962 cars for my display and is one of my favorite year of car in terms of styling. Those big Chryslers are some of my favorite cars, and your builds of them are some of my favorites.

I was able to pick up a Modelhaus resin correct '62 Chrysler 300H interior and wheel-covers for a resurrection of an old built-up Johan "USA Oldies" Chrysler 300 kits. I have done the research on the '62 300H and Newport, and I have an idea of the direction I want to take with the ones I have, However, I love rag tops with the top down, so more than likely, I am going to remove the roof from my hardtop. I also have a Revell '62 Chrysler Newport to re-do too. Maybe I will leave the top on the hardtop as is on the 300H.

As you can see, mine is not as nice as yours, but I was able to strip it of the red brush paint, and it cleaned up nicely.

Looking at yours, an up-to would set it off nicely, as I like the way it looks with the top up. You are right about how the top sits on the JoHan '62 Convertible. The tulip panel looks to be correct on the body, but side windows are too far forward, as the sail panels are a bit long on the Johan up-top.

maybe not as nice but a very decent starting point

Why?

Have you got one that you want to get rid of?

Oh, well, I guess I could take it off of your hands. ;)

Steve

I don't have a Johan but I do have a Revell, Your Johan is an inspiration to build my Newport even thought it is not as sporty with it's bench seat. Maybe not as good model.

I really don't know a lot about the quality of the Revell kit.

I've never had one.

But I can tell you that it's much more rare that the Johan!

I have the Revell Convertible!!
Got a Mixed restorable build a few years ago in trade

Tan interior, chassis, etc and Metalflake Body!!

Hood was tan and Sanded FLAT both top & bottom!

got a metalflake hood later, but a tire melt on one side!!

Got a parts lot Metalflake, but....................

Body cut in half at rear door line

Chassis Length-wise!!

Was thinking of using windshield frame from Chopped up built on a Jo-Han hardtop, but.......

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you! :)

There's a gentleman on ebay right now selling a bunch of parts for this kit.

The body is in great shape & the "buy it now" price is $35.00.

Not "too" bad if someone really needs a good body.

I picked this one up at our club meeting. It cleaned up nicely, and I have already made plans for it. The car is pretty rare as a model and as a one to one. fortunately, all that was missing on this one was one wheel cover, which I am not going to use anyway. The chrome did not hold up, so I may strip it, clean it up, and send it out for re-chroming, so I have plenty of time to work on it.

any updates?

Been on vacation for the past week Al, so nothing much happening at the moment.

I did get the hood repainted over the weekend, so I just have to clear coat that to be caught up to the rest of the body.

I'm working it together with my '65 Fury build so I'll post updates when I have anything worthy of posting to show.

Hopefully I'll get a start on the interior this week.

This project got shoved off to the side when I decided to start my '69 Coronet R/T project, but it was always looming in the corner of my eye.

So it's back to work on this one before I jump into a '63 Bonneville build.

Not a lot as far as updates at this point, but I did get the interior tub primed, the dash & steering wheel painted & got started on foiling the body.

Finished polishing the body last weekend & was pretty pleased with the results.

I'll keep you all updated on any major progress.

Just wanted to let you know that it didn't go back in the box. ;)

Nice, would love to find a few these for myself. Growing up we had a couple '62 Chrysler's. How are you going to make a convincing dash, in my opinion the #1 coolest dash ever made? Does the kit have a glass dome over the gauges or is it just flat?

Might I make a suggestion for color combo.

use the wires from the 55 300 and some parts pack tires ,,,yummy ( Mobeius 300 tires are to tall IMO )

Thanks Bill.

That's pretty much where I'm heading with the interior, although it looks a little darker than what I'm planning on.

Your photo shows a black (or dark brown) dash.

This one will be more in gold tones with lighter tan upholstery.

As far as wheels go, I've already kind of over done it with the Chrysler wires on several projects over the past couple of years.

But luckily AMT, in their infinite wisdom, saw fit to include a set of custom wheels in their '58 Chevy kit that are a dead ringer, (if not exact replicas) of the correct '62 300 hubcaps.

I'll be using a set of those.

I found a "blister pack" that had a round end on it that I cut down & got to fit reasonably well.

Not sure whether I'll use it or not.

Trying to figure out how to attach it without making a mess of the whole thing.

By the way, the blister pack idea came from Chris Brame, (ChrisBcritter) & I thank him for that idea.

Pictures online are deceiving. Its a medium tan and a dark 'goldish' colored upper dash. Actually the top of the dash has a metallic look to it in person

I am planning black with tan interior on one of mine . ( I have an unbuilt hardtop , and just bought an original issue vert today )

the other will be red with dark red interior. Just not sure which one gets what yet

Not sure how it looks on your monitor but its pretty close to this

That's closer to what I was thinking.

Maybe just a tad darker.

I might possibly integrate some black as well just to break things up.

Possibly just the carpet, rear shelf & the area between the rear bucket seats.

The top will be tan as well, but a lighter shade & leaning more towards straight tan & not so much golden in tone.

looking great so far

Thanks Al.

I'm still making progress on this one, although slow.

I got the top painted the other night & I've been putting in a little time on the interior.

The interior in this one is no fun at all!

If anyone wants a foiling & flocking challenge, this is a good one!

Foiling the center console was just a pain in the behind & flocking the carpet is even worse!

The front & rear bucket seats present all kinds of challenges.

Got the floor half done in about 2 or 3 hours on Sunday afternoon!
