Goodwrench3 Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Hi all: I'm working on the Revell kit of the 1987/88 #52 ASA Butch Miller Camaro.Does anyone have any photos of those V6 GM 90 deg. ASA engines ? I was assembling the header halves today and was expecting the exhaust port connections to be equally spaced, but it appears like they are not -- almost like 2 of them are right together on each side? Thanks !
THarrison351 Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Those V-6s were basically racing Chevy small blacks with the rear cylinders lopped off. That's why the right rear and left front exhaust ports are close together like the center ports on a small block Chevy. Pistons, rods, valvetrain, etc., everything but the crank, cam, heads, intake, block, etc interchange. Made pretty good power and were reasonably reliable.
Goodwrench3 Posted July 24, 2016 Author Posted July 24, 2016 Wow -- thanks a TON for that great photo and the info !!I've never been able to find a picture of those and that explains a lot.I'm sure they were a lot more reliable than those crappy Buick 231 V6's in the 1980s.Thanks again.
horsepower Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 He stated it in his answer, but remember the port spacing on the other side is opposite of the side shown, since they use the same casting for left and right cylinder heads.
