Actually, the darker wood helps tone the yellow down a bit, which might have been too bright otherwise. Looks like a car that's been around a few years, too, as wood will naturally darken a bit with age.

A resin '40 woody is available from Morgan Automotive Detail- designed to work with an AMT '40 Ford. You might be able to make it work with a Revell kit.
