To all hi

Okay so being the Brainiac that I am I have succeded in clear coating my windshield and back window on my latest project. What a mess. I have tried rubbing alcohol, stainless steel polish, toothpaste, windex, and nothing has worked. It has been suggested that I used LA Totally Awesome All Purpose Cleaner. I cannot source it locally but have found a similar product by Top Job. Question I have is do I have to take the glass out and soak it in the liquid or can I leave glass intact and swab on with a Qtip or a cotton ball and then wipe it clean? FYI I have glued the glass in place with Testors Canopy Glue then glued from the inside with standard Testors Model Cement. So I would probably have to exacto knife it off I would think. Help is most appreciated. Thanks

So, am I right in thinking that you installed the glass and then cleared the model? If so, the clear is acting as a glue from the outside as well as the glue you applied on the inside. Removing the glass will be very difficult. Most of us use Purple Power or Super Clear as a paint remover and it involves soaking the paint over time. I can't think of anything safe that you could apply with a swab, that will do the job you want.

My advice is to drop back 10 yards and punt. In modeling terms, that means drop the whole body in the paint remover. After the paint is gone, it should be safer to get the glass out. After the abuse it's gotten the glass might need some polishing. Good luck.

I agree.  Use the model as a learning experience.  There is really no need to clearcoat the glass.  Novus plastic cleaner and polish is all you need to get a nice clear piece of "glass".  Install it as one of the last things to avoid fingerprints and otherwise messing it up.
