Hey guys,

I had a ball at our last get together. Anyone up for another one?

Any thoughts as to when? I'm thinking maybe late July or early August. Would give everyone 3 months to make building and travel plans.

How about a "theme"? Maybe a specific year or car type? Don't want to make this a big deal, but a common subject might be fun to see different interpretations.

Anyhow, if you guys want to do it again, let me know and I'll get it going.

I would be up for early August.

As for a theme, maybe road racing.

;) Well guy's I can't make it,But maybe for a theme you could go with "Cars of our youth" that way, us older guys could build 409 chevy's or 413 mopes,or 402 tri-powers, younger guy's could build 427 yenkos,426 hemi's,455 442's, and the youngsters could build tuners. Not that you'd have to stick with your age bracket, after all, your only as old as you feel. Just an idea, hope you don't mind Milt. :D

 I think the theme should be "donks"

 we all build one...share our experience of building a subject completely foriegn to us

:D then donate them all to next years NNL West as give-away cars.

 I'm sure Rex, Steve, Stan, etc would love to have a bunch of "donk give-aways" at the show

;) just an idea guys...

August is fine for me, anytime after that my Saturdays are full..Sundays are always open though

c'ya

man could you guys come down here

i know some good spots

because with the gas prices and the amount of fuel that my future hearse(gitting it in 30 days :D )

i cant make it at all

cruze over to ontario ill find a real good place

and maybe ill get anthony r over there as well

as for the topic man keep it simple anyone can build what they want and show it off there

or we can do a 84 caddy build up and show what guys view as cool

i would be in for this as well assuming last minute plans didnt kaplow it.

as for themes i like the road race one. donks on the other hand will guarantee zero from me (no big loss really) because i dont spend my time building stuff i have no interest in, no matter (practically) what.

either way, or any other way, i would attempt to make it to the meeting

Milt,

You name the time and the place and I'll do all that I can to be there!

As far as a theme goes, while my eclectic friend Curt may be up, (excuse the pun), for building a DONK, I find it difficult enough to carve out the time necessary to build something that I'm interested in and plan on keeping. So, rat rod, sure... hot rod, OK... race car (non-gasser), maybe... DONK, not gonna happen...

whatch out behind you there is one creeping up on you

LOL

hay how about this it has to be a donk kit

now we are talkin' about road racers that turn both left and right?

Don't mind at all George. Wish you could join us. But "cars of our youth"? I don't know how to wire a horse. :( Anyone got lowering blocks for a surrey?

Kevin,

I'm not going to ask a dozen NorCal guys to travel to SoCal. You talk about gas $s, multiply it be 12. If you can make it, and I hope that you do, pizza is on me if you can get the "donk" that Raul sent you built. With 3 months planning, maybe Anthony can make it and give you a ride.

Shoot Curt, I should have picked more donks at big lots when they were on close out. But I'm game if that's what you guys want to do.

O.K. when someone says "road racer", my mind goes to a trim young woman in short shorts with a cut off tee shirt jogging by. Oops different forum. :)

Since I'm in the process of building a 1/16 31 Ford pick up, "B" day present from my grand kids, I suggest "trucks" as the theme. Stock, custom, drag, whatever. What do you guys think? I know Raul, you already have show winners completed, but you would have to build a new one. :(

Actually, the Caddy DONK and some lowrider wheels for Kevin, the '37 Ford pickup wheels for Anthony and a whole bunch of "stuff" for Bernard should make its way to the post office tomorrow morning...at least that's what my son has promised me...he's been pretty busy the week with work and school...

roadkill mike, where did that datsun come from? is that currently in shops? i have the bre one but would like one of those too as i assume they are basically the same. or is that from your stash?

evilone, afraid of donks? please. i dont want to get into talking down anyones choice of building material so all i will say is if it interests you build on. personally i laugh when one of those goes by but its not from fear, believe me. i respect them as something completely off the wall, something completely impractical (almost the pure definition of "custom" in a way) and im amazed the $ some of them people dump into them but i am not spending my time doing one. that certainly dont mean you or anyone or everyone cant do them.

same way i dont build nascar: absolutely no interest. so call me an equal opportunity hater if anything.

well i take that back, i might indeed build nascar if that included 50s and 60s nascar before they all started regulating it to death.

road racing, yeah that implies left and right turns.

anyway whatever the theme, i will build one. or not. mostly not im afraid because i usually have to be pretty highly motivated to complete something, and working to a deadline is too much like real work.

I got the Datsun at Okie Al's last year, the box says 2002 so its not in stores. It is the same as the BRE kit except for the racing bits. Im painting this one Pearl White with the alternate decals.

Hey Bill,

Just a quick word about NASCAR. A few months ago, I built the Dale E sr kit for a buddy of mine. He is an old time racer. The build was really fun. Just like building a real race car. Detailed roll bar cage, suspension, ducting to brakes and coolers etc... If you enjoy, at all, NASCAR racing on TV, build one. Will give you a whole new perspective on the cars.

But, that being said, it's the only one that I have built. Now days, due to regulations, they are all just about the same with different decals.

and second see if i can get the $$$$$$ for the gas

this sounds cool ;) especailly the road racing.

I will admit I do like NASCAR.......................when they didn't have a rule book bigger than the Websters dictionary and men raced like men, not overpriced walking sponsers and also since Toyota is in it, I like to see the others cry. They are the same just with different decals and what if we don't like watching it a lot, or don't like it being shoved down our throats? :)

Can you classify these identical Tupperware covered chassis real race cars?

If I wanted to watch identical colors going around in circles all day I would flush my bag of skittles down the toilet.

Nick, what I meant was, building a NASCAR from frame up, adding suspension parts, safety cages, cooling ducting, dual ignition boxes, fuel cells, etc... gave me a whole new perspective on the quality and of course the cost involved in these cars.

As for your comments about "walking sponsors", I take exception. Each and every winner of any kind of race will spend a whole lot of time plugging his/her car and sponsors. That's one way of staying in buisness. "Real race cars"? Try building something that can turn 8000 rpms for 400 miles, trade paint at 180 mph, and finish.

And, if you don't like watching it, you have options. Turn it off, change channels, or flush your skittles and watch them.

Kevin, come on up. Tell me where I can find one of your selected bribes, and I'll have it waiting for you. ;)
