When I bought this Mercury it only had the stock parts and front and rear hubcaps did not match and all the trim and scripts were removed ,the windshield frame is perfect and for $15 at Dupage swap meet last year I had to buy it. I decided to do a mild custom.,so I opened up a new set of Pegasus chrome reverse #1125 . I have mirrors and spot lights and great glass for it. I am going to add a strip some place on both sides so I can break up the long body with some chrome.and add a continental kit on the back.I used a Tamiya panel scriber to make the door lines deeper,  and that scriber is an awesome tool to work with. .Door handles were shaved off but I got two chrome ones off a junker Revell 59 Chevy .Next step is to get the body in primer to find all the scratches and low areas from the original owner sanding everything off. Basically the only thing Im missing are the fender guides and what color it should be..

Great find. The 1:1 Merc. had a chrome molding down the side that ran from the top edge of the headlights too the edge of the rear, then turned down  in an arch over the tail lights before ending at the rear bumper. The molding may be very faint on this body. This might be one idea to use if you go with a tu-tone paint  job. Since your thinking a custom maybe a fade paint scheme.

Ken,

That is some nice work. My Grandpa and my Mom both had '60 Mercs at various times in my life, so I am familiar with the car. I have a Hardtop and a Convertible to do. One of these days. Both of them were rather chewed up when I got them, but now they are cleaned up, and now both of them are in primer, and awaiting their turn.

I love what you are doing.

Got the body work done on this '60 Mercury by cleaning up what the original builder sanded off and deepened the door , hood and trunk lines`. Then added simple 1.5mm strips of half round to the sides. I filled in the top fender grooves with evergreen strips then added the same 1.5mm half round on top of that.. Sanded the leading edge of the fender top strips flush with the fender. Color I chose is Metallic Root Beer body and off white interior with body color accents.I may change tire and wheel combo to wider whites, but have to wait till paint is on.

Got metallic brown color on and first coat of clear is dry ,I would like to spray on another coat of clear, the final tire / wheel combo is on .I still have to start on the interior.. Its a pain that the bumper sides have a mold line, I really dont want to remove and rechrome , Im afraid I'll move on to something else and never finish it.  I'll polish the body , bare metal what needs to be foiled ,  add the door handles and see what happens.

Slow moving progress on my Mercury. I finished the bare metal foil and added the new front bumper / grille. Since all the trim is custom add on I used the custom rear lights on the stock bumper. Next is get the interior painted a medium dark tan with white accents and detail then add exterior chrome tidbits such as mirrors , antennas maybe spotlights. I'm leaving the continental kit off as this car is long enough already.
