How do you highlight/wash something black?

Hi- searched the forums but didnt seem to find what I was looking for i think. I have a motor/equipment generator that i have painted flat black and i wanted to age it a bit as well as highlight the details. Is there a way to do a wash on something that is black; opposite of whats normally done using a black wash? I thought about dry brushing maybe a really dark blue to show its sun faded or something? I also thought about silver but i don't want it to look damaged, just faded and or pick out the details. Thanks in advance for the support.

Dirt stands out on flat black just fine. I'd come up with a road dust colored wash or maybe some pastel chalks.

Dirt/grunge/mud/dust is usually tan/beige/gray, so using washes or chalks using those colors will give you the effect you are looking for.

Although this site deals with figures it has the best examples of using washes and high lights. I have used the techniques shown on engines, transmissions, etc.

Thanks all. Forgot about chalks and will look into trying those.
