This 1:24 Italeri kit depicts the automobile winner of the 1981 Paris-Dakar Rally. The kit is curbside, and although there is no engine, it has a fair bit of interior detail, including a spare tire case, fuel tank with fuel pumps, and roll bar on the inside that will not really be visible once built.

The picture on the front of the box is a slightly retouched photo of the actual kit model.

Decals by Cartograf appear to be high quality P1030013P1030015P1030016

The body is molded in good quality white plastic, with no swirls or heat marks. Could probably be used without painting, if you wanted to just add decals.P1030018P1030019

The kit includes some mesh to depict the nets on the front windows (although the nets on the real truck were a much more open weave pattern).

Only a very basic imprint of the engine on the underside. The interior panels and seats have decent detail.

This is the old Esci tool. Looks great built, this version is a great one. Wish we had a P38, we've had 3, another great Rangie. Thanks for post.

Thanks!  I hope ITALERI re-issues the Range Rover Police version.  It had really nice Cartograf decals for a British or Dutch police car. Even better, it had dashboards and front suspension parts for both Left-hand and Right-hand drive versions.

Good comment about the plastic quality.  Somewhere here, I have an old article about Francois Verlinden's build of the ESCI 1/24 Mercedes 500SL "Bandama Rally" car. That was molded in silver-ish plastic and Verlinden didn't even paint it.  He just sanded down the few seams on the ridgelines, clear-coated, then weathered it with a really grungy finish suitable to a beat-up rally car.  It looked great. But of course, he was Francois Verlinden...

Looks like it's out:

I've got the police one on pre-order from HLJ, plan to do a stock RR with it, and got the Rally version a while back.  I want to do the Rally version as a phantom panel truck version.   I've got the later vintage Aoshima 4dr RR, so these will go well with it...

Thanks.  It sure is!  I just ordered 2 from HobbyLinc, which has them in stock (or at least said they did).  This re-issue comes with decals for 3 different vehicles, 2 British from 1979-80 and 1 Dutch.
