aurfalien Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 (edited) Hi, This kit started off real simple but got real complicated, mostly due to many mistakes. I crazed the body and wheels pretty badly, too much primer at once plus I didn't wash the resin type wheels. These mistakes I will no longer make. I sanded the tire lettering off, decaled, Pledged and cleared. But when I installed the rims, the rubber cracked. So I used some super glue to fill in the cracks, sanded and cleared. Not perfect, just ok. I feel like I sorta screwed up on the size of the front wheels. I should have sized em the same as the rears but with a smaller profile tire. Right now the front wheel well doesn't looked filled properly. However I did spend a lot of time ensuring the wheels were tucked in just right w/o any odd camber or toe. To me stanse is very important. Kinda like "strike a pose". I had to make a new windshield as the kit had a big crack and was too thick. Unfortunatly using clay or Miliput as a mold to heat the glass against didn't work for me as it kept curling upwards. After several attempts I decided to tape the Evergreen against the kit glass and slowly heat it up. This created enough of a curviture to work. After some handling the plastic got sorta foggy with fine scratches so I washed and coated with Pledge. I used LazerBond to attach it, turned out ok. The fog lights had a noticable gap between the glass and the body. So I took acrylic putty and smoothed it around the glass removing any access with a damp finger. I then coated in Pledge for protection and Micro Masked for painting purposes. It turned out ok. I'm feeling better about spraying via can/air brush which is great as they both terrifed me. I still get slight orange peel but hoping with time it gets as good as your builds. All in all I highly recommend this kit as it's just so darn cool. Besides, I prefer the look of an 05' GT to the new 16' model. While the new one is totally bad a$$, I love the look of the original GT40 which the 05' captures pretty well I think. I scanned and printed the decals based on RGB values for Gulf Orange. They didn't work out so I tried the ones that came with the GTX-1 but they actually bled color while soaking for a short time. I'm pretty disapointed but time to move on. I will however say that this is the last time I go with attempting custom decals or after market decals from individuals. Special thanks to; Darren@DB Designz for providing the body.Matt@Gravity Colors for providing the paint.Jeremy@Clearly Scale for providing the tires and wheels. All of which are awesome features of the car. An interesting thing I've learned about modified builds is economics. When all was said and done, it cost me about the same as a SimilR GT. So I'm looking at future builds a bit differently now. Edited November 17, 2016 by aurfalien
Dann Tier Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Its rare that any of us REALLY like everything about a particular auto design, but I can honestly say that from your mods down to choice of wheels and color, I do like EVERYTHING about what you did here!! Q: did I miss you saying which kit this was -Jada?!
