Intmd8r Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 Just purchased this bad boy from eBay: I was feeling nostalgic over the kit that was gifted to me back when I was 13. My skills were very modest back then, but I remember that I was able to turn out a half decent build out of it. With that said, I wasn't able to find much reviews/feedback on this kit. Any one have any feedback to give while I wait for Canada Post to deliver my most recent purchase? Also, I noticed that the Tamiya version of the F50 is also 1:24 scale. Its been my impression that the Japanese manufactures tend to lean towards the 1:25 side. Are there any family ties or relationship between the Tamiya kits, Revell of Germany, and the old '95 Revell/Monogram? I would have preferred to build either the Tamiya or Revell of Germany versions, but the price kind of drove me to look for the "vintage" '95 issue. Look forward to your feedback!
Exotics_Builder Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 Japanese manufacturers (Aoshima, Fujimi, Tamiya, Model Factory Hiro, etc.) are primarily 1/24 scale. Trucks are often done 1/32. The Revell/Monogram F50 is a reboxed Revell of Germany F50. Revell of Germany autos and trucks are primarily 1/24th scale except those they rebox from Revell USA which are mainly 1/25 Most Japanese Formula 1 are 1/20 while Revell of Germany does 1/24. I have the Tamiya, Revell of Germany and Revell USA F50's still in the box if you want more info
Intmd8r Posted November 23, 2016 Author Posted November 23, 2016 Guess what I'm looking for is how the quality compares between the Tamiya and Revell kits.I'm looking to give this kit another try and add some detail this time around. My skills have improved over the years (hopeully) and I want to build somethign out of the norm for me.Have seen some PE parts on HLJ that are made for the Tamiya kit - curious to see if the aftermarket stuff will fit on the Revell version without much fuss. Not like that will stop me lol.

Do you want photos of the Tamiya content? Or will this work for you?Tamiya F50 contents and instructions
Intmd8r Posted November 24, 2016 Author Posted November 24, 2016 Gerry/Casey - you both have been a great help.Although the links, pictures and reviews of the Revell of Germany kits apear to have a more comlete decal sheet that the old North American issue, all indications are the same kit otherwise.@ Casey - one last question! If its not too much trouble, can you compare the rear deck lid between the '95 issue and the Tamiya? Specifically, I'm curious about the opening for the rear grill (for a lack of a better term). If they are similar dimensions, I'm going to order the PE set from HLJ for my future build! Thanks - SC

I have the Studio 27 PE set and it fits over the Tamiya rear "grill" panel but NOT over the Revell of Germany. In both the Tamiya and RoG kits, that piece is clear plastic with the PE part supposed to fit over. It does on the Tamiya, but does not on the RoG. I would suppose it would be the same on the Hobby Design set (which I do not have).Hope this helps
