Reading these 3D threads and watching online everything that average joes can acomplish, stuff i assumed companies with

unlimited funds could do. These tiny figurines with amazing detail got me thinking if there was possibillities to 3D print

model car scripts & lettering? Sure there are photo-etch set`s avaliable, but very limited offerings if you step a little bit

outside of building the kit`s companies offer.  I asked prices for custom photo-etch sets and i got mixed answers what

the cost would be.

Ok,so my question is,what would the cost be to get 3D printed scripts and/or lettering in 1:24/1:25 scale? There can

be had custom made decals, but as for my part it really dont cut it when it comes to scripts.

Assuming you are talking about 1/24, even twice that size, I believe scripts are just too small and thin to be 3D Printed with current printer technology. The roughness from printing would be very apparent on so thin a piece.

I have used Shapeways to print some small light housings and a script may be possible to pass their minimum thickness requirements. It would be interesting to see just what you could get through their checks. The light housings were approaching their limits and they came out well with just some light sanding to smooth a few areas. Note the thinness at the front edge of the grey pieces below. Two of these housings with a connector between them was just over $5 plus about $5 shipping. Model is 1/24.

It is possible to print lettering in those scales as I have done it for someone else. It was the B.F GOODRICH on the sidewall of a tire. That is the only way I know of that it can be done. That is, on an existing surface. To print just the script isn't possible.
