koganmj Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Hi everyone, super hardcore newbie here, as bad as it gets, apologise in advance. I bought a 1:18 scale model Hot Wheels Ferarri 599GTO online, when it arrived I realised it had a base to which it was attached but not an acrylic surrounding display case, so I jumped online and bought a 1:18 display case thinking the case would just seamlessly transfer as a perfect fit to the base of my model, it doesn't, and since then I've been diving down this rabbit hole of ever so slight variations in sizes of display cases and scale model bases depending on different brands. All very new to me. The Hot Wheels base has a 599GTO badge and stilts that elevate the car slightly into the air, so I'd prefer to keep the existing base and find a compatible display case if possible rather than transfer the car to a whole new base. This is maybe not the most relevant place to ask for advice but I'm hoping someone with more knowledge might be willing to share their expertise in helping me to find a display case that will fit my Hot Wheels model. Internal measurements are 315mm wide X 150mm deep. Seems a bit hard to believe that I can't seem to find anywhere a 1:18 case that will fit a Hot Wheels model. Much thanks.
peteski Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Like you already found out, there is no standard display base design shared between manufacturers (or sometimes maybe even between different production runs from the same manufacturer)! The only sure way to get the clear cover that fits your base would be to find another Hot Wheels model just like it which has the clear cover. If this particular run of the model did not include the clear cover then you just have to keep looking for a match. Or bite the bullet and just put the model in the case you bought. You could probably trim the model's base so it fits in the case you bought..
crazyjim Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Try Carney Plastics or go to Home Depot and purchase clear plexiglass and to to your specific size. Use clear silicone caulk to glue it together.
disabled modeler Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 I use retired store show cases I got cheap from a store that closed here...even lights up.
