Patriots' Day: review and reflection

Without question, this is one of the finest movies I've ever seen. If John Goodman and Mark Wahlberg don't get at least 2-3 Oscars for this cinematic achievement, then we can be certain the Oscar voting system is a failure.

I remember this day very well, nearly being trapped in Boston after the bombings at a Graduate class. Returning to my car, parked in Jamaica Plain, was a very interesting, and trying, evening, with the buses and Green Line both shut down.

What's even scarier is thinking that had my class started an hour later, I might well have been on an E-line Green Line car, passing under Boylston Street as those bombs went off.

Let this movie leave no doubt in your mind- that was a very scary week in Greater Boston, and I found myself more thankful than usual that I don't live in, or too close to, the city.

This movie is gritty- and it's a little tough to watch at certain points. The language is abhorrently bad (although it most certainly adds to the reality,) and some of the camera work, while done skillfully, can be a bit dizzying, but it is designed that way to capture the feeling of the whirlwind.

The plot, firmly rooted in reality, with a little extra thrown in, is incredible.

The movie is NOT for little eyes or ears.

This movie brought back a rush of feelings- of fear, helplessness, and yes, anger, that Flashbang and Speedbump, two useless dregs, could still create the havoc they did, and how they were taken out like the cowards they were/are.

Bottom line: this one is absolutely worth the price of admission.
