belfast boyo Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Fancy doing a wagon, but with twist. It is done in Humbrol chrome silver but that is only a base colour. The engine bay is nicely detailed. The colour? it is a Kwacker candy green,it has scope for going pear shaped though...
belfast boyo Posted January 27, 2017 Author Posted January 27, 2017 The green went on ok(ish) It looks ok,next will be masking the sides for perhaps stainless steel.
belfast boyo Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 Sprayed the interior David Piper green. The chassis is sprayed matt black. Meanwhile the shell is being masked for a second colour - it is not quite ready yet though..
espo Posted January 29, 2017 Posted January 29, 2017 I like your color choice. What do you have in mind for the roof color?? I would avoid leaving the clear plastic masking on the body very long. I used this method once and the plastic wrap reacted with the paint on the main body, it was a mess. It may have been the brand of clear wrap I used, Glad Press'n Seal.
belfast boyo Posted January 29, 2017 Author Posted January 29, 2017 Thanks David,it will be sprayed tomorrow and the roof will be gloss black and the side stripe stainless steel. The clear plastic is household food wrap clingfilm over here, saran wrap your side of the pond?
belfast boyo Posted January 31, 2017 Author Posted January 31, 2017 This has gone pear shaped, the masking was fine but the green lifted badly!
StevenGuthmiller Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Ouch! What kind of tape did you use? This sort of thing is the reason why I use masking paper. It's always a good idea to have as little masking tape as possible on your painted surfaces. The type of masking tape can make a major difference as well. Steve
belfast boyo Posted January 31, 2017 Author Posted January 31, 2017 The tape was Tamiya but I suspect the humbrol silver base........
StevenGuthmiller Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 The tape was Tamiya but I suspect the humbrol silver base........ I would agree that the paint must be the issue. Normally, Tamiya tape is very forgiving in this type of situation. I've had the same problem with Testors silver, gold & copper spray enamels many years ago. Back to the drawing board, huh? Steve
Dusted1972 Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 (edited) Aww That's heart breaking and it was looking great too .This happened to me also when I was doing my Acura. If you do it right away,a dip in purple power degreaser for a day or so should take that paint right off and back down to plastic. Don't worry It happens to many of us.Even those of us that have been doing it for years. That's why I keep a tub of purple power degreser on stand by "just in case" Edited February 1, 2017 by Dusted1972
