MarkJ Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Will the Iwata external Mac valve fit a Paashe vL airbrush? If not can it be adapted to fit it? Thanks if you can help.
Phirewriter Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 (edited) It can be adapted, however Paasche makes a valve that would probably be less expensive than the adapters required. http://www.paascheairbrush.com/discount-class/b/3a-1 Edited January 31, 2017 by Phirewriter

But if I can get the other valve and the adapters locally I wont have to pay for shipping. They say hobby Lobby is a dealer for them but I doubt if they carry this needle valve.
MarkJ Posted February 1, 2017 Author Posted February 1, 2017 Michael, I went ahead and ordered the needle valve directly from Paasche. It should be here by Saturday. The compressor I have puts out 40 p.s.I. and there is no way to reduce it because it doesn't have a regulator on it. This valve should allow me to do it right at the air brush. It wont have a guage so I will just have to trial and error it till I get it right.
Phirewriter Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 I think you'll be happy with it. I have one on a gravity fed Talon and it works great.

Old Coyote Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 (edited) Mark, I have an external regulator on my compressor hose and it has an accurate gauge ............. will adjust from 5 pounds to 150 pounds ......... works great for me as my compressor only puts out a maximum of 120 pounds and it also has a built-in condensation trap ............... gives me good control of the airbrush no matter what needle I have in the unit You have mail at Randy's Edited February 2, 2017 by Old Coyote

When I bought my compressor about 9 years ago at hobby lobby I didn't research very well what I needed to have and bought it without a regulator. It had a built in regulator set at 40psi so that's where I always had to spray at. Needless to say I didn't have very good results. That's why I gave up on it and just used rattle cans. I'm hoping this needle valve will allow me to get better results.
Phirewriter Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 (edited) I use a regulator/moisture trap, however I find having the additional control at the brush is beneficial. I didn't realize this valve was your primary source of pressure control, however you shouldn't have any problems using the small air valve alone. As you get used to painting with your airbrush you'll find that becomes easier to find the right combination of mix and pressure. PM me if you have any questions. Old Coyote Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 John, did that regulator come with your compressor or did you have to add it. I'm hoping this needle valve will allow me to get better results. I bought the regulator separately when I purchased my first airbrush setup. It's a stand-alone unit that connects on one side to the compressor and on the other side to the hose. The connections are made with quick connects. Before I got it I had to use the non-accurate regulator which was built into the compressor (used the compressor for my 1:1 air tools). If I remember correctly it cost around $15. John Pattison, the man who taught me to use an airbrush told me I had to get an external regulator/trap. He is an absolute master with an airbrush as you can see below
