TarheelRick Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 (edited) While we are on the topic of building trailers. Does anyone have any drawings/plans for either a torsion suspension for a double/multi axle trailer, or how to attach a double/multi axle leaf spring system? I have looked through several trailer manufacturers and do have some rudimentary ideas but nothing that seems really feasible for scratchbuilding. I am having a brain-phhhtt, there is a name for the piece used between the two springs on a double axle trailer.BTW, that is a nice modification to the Caprice trailer. One of my big issues with that particular trailer kit is the lack of a cross-member across the rear of the trailer, I would be afraid those free-floating ramps would begin to really oscillate going down a typically rough interstate. Flynlo Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 (edited) See this thread for how I made torsion axles for an enclosed race trailer. There is a drawing of a torsion axle down the thread a ways. They are much simpler to model than leaf springs and multiple avles are no problem!http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/117706-ford-f-350-dually-wscratch-built-race-trailer/ Edited February 14, 2017 by Flynlo
afx Posted February 15, 2017 Author Posted February 15, 2017 Nice looking race rig Tim. The trailer art work isn't bad either.
torinobradley Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Going to have to remember this if and when I get back to the Executor and decide to build the truck & trailer too. The pics show a very small trailer such as this though I think a bit shorter, seeing a cobra on the trailer you're building. Thanks for the ride-along!
afx Posted February 15, 2017 Author Posted February 15, 2017 (edited) Yea Andrew I have been contemplating shortening the trailer. With the ramps stowed the trailer tips nose up. I remember your project would like to see you get back after it. Edited February 15, 2017 by afx
426-Hemi Posted February 16, 2017 Posted February 16, 2017 NICE! I love all this pick-up trailer talk! I have another trailer (found when I dug out those I have) thats from the Fireball 500 kit, MAN is that trailer LACKING badly! dual axle, no fenders, and VERY LIGHT framed. thats all gonna change I can tell ya! I'll be merely only using the tread-ways when all said and done with that trailer LOL as there really isn't much to it that I like beside the tread-ways it has! -I'll also be replacing those tires they put with it! plastic, glue together, NO TREAD tires? Whats was AMT thinkin' when thew threw that in that Custom '66 Cuda kit!?I'll be posting those when I start workin' on 'em!
